Maybe I'm a little jaded, living in LA, but I'm so tired of it already. The expense that this city is spending over it really burns me up. Watching that stupid procession, and the extensive use of CHP, LAPD, LAFD and other resources is sickening. They had at least 2 SWAT vehicles, and 2 LAFD Ambulances & a Battalion Chief as part of the damn procession! Plus, an LAFD Helicopter standing by at Forest Lawn? And, closing freeways in the middle of morning rush hour?

The real tragedy is how quickly Farrah Fawcett's death was so sadly overshadowed. Everything she went through, and everything that she did to make the public aware of her tragic disease was relegated to the back burner. For what? Even news of her funeral was only a 3-minute snippet at the bottom of the news hour.

Sorry, that's just this reporter's opinion!

And to further put a damper on it, I have a son buried at Forest Lawn and I do hope those idiots are kept off the other graves.

Was he really all that great to get the amount of attention that he is getting? I wish people would get a life.

Hanna - so sorry for your loss. My best thoughts for you and yours.

I totally get what you are saying. Kent - you can appreciate this since you know the area. The Jackson's live on one of the streets down from my brother and my sister in law has been driven crazy because she can't get to the grocery store because all the streets are blocked off. She said the zoo up there is ridiculous.

I agree - it's a shame Farrah and all she did on cancer education has been overshadowed.

Since Jackson's music was really my generation - from when I was a kid and then Off The Wall and Thriller hit when I was in college - and Bad and Dangerous were in my 20s, it has had a surprising impact. It caused me to dig out my old CD's and listen to them again. His weirdness/illness/lifestyle truly overshadowed his music in the last 20 years. But listening to the music again is bittersweet - I think it's not just losing a music icon, it's losing youth/innocence - even a simpler time - as crazy as it seems to call the 1980's a simpler time. Taking his sordid existence out of it and just listening to the music, he was a musical genius for many. But I do agree that Los Angeles should not spend taxpayer's money - no wonder with boneheaded decisions like this California's finances are in the toilet. Someone will make a profit from that event and that money needs to be repaid to the City of Los Angeles.

Hey - I need a cruise. 142 days...............

Yes Sharon, I know exactly what you're talking about. I was also born & raised in Encino, right up Hayvenhurst, and I regularly passed the Jackson house. I hardly remember a time when there weren't fans (read: FANATICS) camped out in front. For what, a glimpse of a passing car with tinted windows? Please!

I don't question his genius, contributions, etc to history. Heck, I even like some of his stuff. But, it's the exaggerated degree to which this whole thing has turned into, especially the cost, which infuriates me. And, of course, the inconvenience for those affected, like your brother's family, and everyone else just trying to live their lives around any of the MJ venues.

Hopefully the mass hysteria (what else can we call it?) will decrease in the next few days. NPR had an interesting segment on Jackson highlighting both the pro and con and cane up with about the same conclusions you guys have.
