Now here's the kicker; if you book one of their inside single cabins on the NCL Epic, they will only charge the NCF's once. However, if you book any other cabin as a single, they will charge you double the NCF's. On any other ship, they also will charge a single traveler double the NCF's.

To me, that's just wrong. They're taking advantage of someone not because they have to, but just because they want to in order to pad the profit.

Carnival used to charge 150%. They would take the 2nd fare and subtract the NCF/port charges and then charge 50% of what was left.

Maybe 3 years ago, they started charging 50% of the 2nd fare, hardly a whimper. Im convinced almost no cruise pax understand that port charges ....ARE INCLUDED IN THE CRUISEFARE.

Now they charge you 200%. You pay the full amount of port charges for two people. Seems to me this should be illegal.

If I wasnt using those cruise vouchers I mentioned and going on the cheap, I would not pay 200% to Carnival. I just wouldnt. Why should I pay port charges for two people and how is it legal?

Thumbs up flowers - I agree with you

It is really sad that Carnival Cruise Line has taken the position that they can take advantage of us that travel solo.

Wake-up Carnival - you will make more money by lowering the single supp and stop charging us twice for port charges. When that happens, more of us will book with you again!!!!

Just so you know, the cruise rate shown on your confirmation from Carnival is actually made up of two separate items; the cruise fare itself and the the port fees, or NCF's (non-commissionable fare) as they're called. This is the rate all agents and cruise lines are required to quote as the cost of the cruise, which does not include taxes, gratuities, or fuel supplement.

Normally, the amount paid by a single is often referred to as a 'single supplement'. What this means is that the cruise fare (not including the NCF's) will increase depending on the single supplement being applied. For example, if they are doubling the cruise fare, this is called a single supplement of 200%. If they are only multiplying the cruise fare by 1.5, then the single supplement is 150% and so on.

I started a post on NCF's and who charges what here; http://www.cruiselinefans.com/ask-tr...rges-what.html (NCF's for Singles - Who Charges What?)

In the past, we would sometimes see a single supplement of 100% or even 125%, but those days appear to be long gone. Now we'll sometimes see 150%, but haven't seen anything less than that for quite a while.

As I explained below, the NCF's should be charged only once for a single. Anything more is just a way to increase profit as there is no legitimate reason to support it. Some cruise lines charge it twice, while others only charge it once.

I started a thread on this very issue and you can read more about it here; http://www.cruiselinefans.com/additi...port-fees.html (What's Up With Port Fees?)

I cruised back in the 80s when they added port charges on. Mid 1990s there was a class action lawsuit by FL AG which forced cruiselines to add port charges into the cruisefare, as adding such a large amount was decided it was deceptive advertising.

Maybe you quoted me by accident. just couldnt figure out why if we agreed you were quoting me as if addressing me in particular.

Wasn't disagreeing with you, just wanted to clarify it so everyone understood how it works. It can definitely be confusing for those who don't know how it all works and may have questions about the various amounts they are requred to pay.

Pete- very good point. They do it because they can get by with it. Until some government official starts to look at it.......

Pete ok .. it sounded like you were addressing me and explaining it to me since you quoted me.

Too many cruisers dont know this ... everyone needs to know this.

As you can tell its something that sticks in my craw to have to not only pay double on the cruisefare, but also on the port fees.
