    Smile Happy Story!

Very HAPPY about this and wanted to share it with others who might care and be happy about it too!

We have a solo widower friend from England we've known and cruised over the past 20 years from time to time ... even knew his dear wife. Another widower (also from England) we had met on a cruise a while back was was also on our last cruise.

Both were booking balcony cabins and paying the extra single suppliment for doing so. We introduced them to each other. Turns out they both live just outside of London and got along famously and have often gotton together since and with each other's families at home!

Got an emial this morning telling me they had booked a full suite together for a long cruise to the South Pacific !

LuLu, those single supplements can deter some from cruising, it's so great that they met up and now have a cruise buddie to cruise with

This really made me happy for them!

Wonder how many solos meet others on a cruise and decide to get a cabin together for the next?

Seems you'd really need to like each other lots to be willing to do this.

Enjoyed reading the article about two "elderly" people finding each other on a single cruise. My last cruise was also my first solo one. And I was scared to death! How dependent am I for that arm to hold onto when I do my own thing anyway? :-)-- Actually, to my surprise, I enjoyed the cruise . Probably it was because my DR Maitre de let me choose my tablemates! (He showed me the DR log and I chose!) I loved going to dinner and meeting up with my new friends. I visited the Concierge Room at 6 every night and saw my working/serving pals who worried about me if I didn't show up.. and I went to every lunch/dinner invitation that came into my room--which I usually don't do with a companion.
And then I realized something! As cruisers with companions we are the "visitors" appreciative of all of the ship's "employees" -- our hosts, helpers, and servers whose jobs are to keep us happy and comfortable. As a travel-alone cruiser, I found the "employees" as friends and family--- compassionate, friendly and fun... who looked after me every day simply because I was alone.
So--while my old life is gone as a couple (hopefully just for a while)...a new one has begun... as a solo cruiser. I shall continue on even if in trepidation!!

I need to find someone who wants to cruise who lives in TX .. and who can afford to pay their share.

Good story. I hate paying that 200%

    sunnydaze:

So glad you've found that it works!

After my wife died some 11 years ago, I began to travel a lot. I avoided cruises and tours offering "share" partners. Instead, I took advantage of offerings where a single paid a supplement of only 50%.

My rationale: If my wife were still here, I'd be paying twice the per person double occupancy rate. Now that she's gone, I can travel for less, at least when the single supplement is less than 100%!

While it may be "faulty" mathematics, it works for me!

I continue to avoid singles events. While I may be wrong, I still view them as "meat markets!"

Several years ago, I hooked up with a long-standing divorcee of comparable age whilst we we were sailing the Inner Passage along Alaska's coast. We now travel frequently together but independently. In fact, we're off tomorrow [8/4/11] for a Viking River Cruise on the Danube!

    A great story Lulu

I am sure the full suite is not costing much more (if any) then two balcony cabins would with the single suppliement.

I have met a lady on a few cruises who sometimes shares with another lady she met on a cruise.

I also met two ladies on Caronia who were friends and decided to share, a cabin. It did not work out too well as one wanted to be in bed early the other wanted to stay up late. Also one was untidy and was driving the other mad. They were still friends, but would never share a cabin

I hope it works out for them so they can have more cruises

Cruises booked: Queen Victoria August 2012 and Queen Elizabeth December 2012.
