    SOLO vs. SINGLE cruising

Has anyone ever traveled solo, vs. cruising single? There isn't much on this forum to help people who want to cruise alone either by necessity or personal preference.

Do you think there is a difference between solo cruising and single cruising?

It would be nice to start a discussion about this topic, as I am sure I can't be the only one who would like more experiental feedback.

I'm not sure what the difference is, but I cruise solo/single more than I cruise with someone else.

I think it is just a matter of perception singles cruising implies you are trying to "meet" or "hook up" but solo cruising makes it "sound" like you are just traveling alone. I have traveled solo on 4 out of 5 cruises with Carnival and had a blast every time. The boards are a great way of traveling solo but still meeting new friends.
    Past cruises:
Carnival Splendor 12/08 Carnival Victory 05/08, Carnival Inspiration 01/08, Carnival Freedom 12/07, Carnival Triumph 05/07, Carnival Liberty 12/06, Carnival Liberty 12/05, Carnival Miracle 12/04, Carnival Inspiration 12/02, Carnival Sensation 12/01, Premier Oceanic 05/91

That's exactly the distinction, according to one website I found.

BTW, I found a couple of travel agencies that solo / single cruisers might find interesting One specializes in singles' cruising, the other in solo.

I added links to both agencies to our Cruise Resources area, under the category of 'Travel Agencies.'

Traveling solo is great. You do what you want, excursions, onboard activities, not have to wait for anyone, see shows you want. I like that and have traveled solo several times. I do believe that it takes a certain type of person to travel solo and or single. If you are the type that does not like to go to the movies by yourself or even dine alone in a restaurant, or if you a bit insecure then I think going solo is not for you. It takes a bit of self confidence to do it. Me, I don't let the grass grow under my feet. If I want to go and no one else is interested in going, then I simply say, see you later. I have no qualms about eating alone, going to a movie alone, and definitely do not hesitate to cruise alone when the opportunity arises. I don't like to travel with someone that is what I call a hanger on, someone that won't do anything on their own. Seriously have you ever traveled with someone that becomes your shadow? Ughhhh!

Just my opinion, got two cents? That is about what it is worth. lol

I think you are exactly right.
I think I MAY want to try it sometime... but I'll have to work up to it.

Part of me thinks it would be absolutely wonderful ... part of me is a little timid just thinking about it.

I'm a Geminii - maybe that's the problem - the twins are arguing, LOL

I have cruised solo and single. The only difference is whether or not you want to share a room with a stranger. I had no problem doing this when I was single.

Another good place to look for single cruisers is the many groups that are being put together here at CLF. They have a roll call where you can probably meet someone that you could share a cabin with.

Solo cruising has become very expensive although the cruise lines, on occasion, offer discounted single supplements.

A good resource for single cruisers is SinglesCruiseResource
You can go there and sign up for a newsletter dedicated to single cruisers.

I have been a single guy for a while, and being a single is not a problem with me. I am an experienced solo traveler, and I am never alone on a cruise ship. A solo person will always get an invitation for a drink or to join a group for dinner.

On shore excursions, I am often hoofing it or biking it to places that would slow me down with a group or a spouse. Maybe its just easier being a solo male than being a solo female.

To do solo cruisin at a reasonable price, you need to do constant internet surfing to find the good deals. Suggestions above are good. Anytime you can get anything under 150% of the PPDO price is a good price. Its better if you can jump on a good price at the last moment.

You are correct about the mark up. All cabins are marked for two, so they really want 2500 for that cabin, they mark it as 1250pp because MOST rooms (inside, ocean, balcony) are booked as double occupant so there will be an amazing mark up, IMO.

Please explain solo / single? Unless we are talking about singles cruise?

Either way, I forgot who said it above, but you do need to be out going and be able to do stuff on your own, and want to do stuff on your own. Other wise you are going to be very very lonely. You also need to be out going to meet friends and talk to people around you, even if it is the occasional conversation at a bar to the person passing by. It will keep your brain awake and you alert and ready to make friends!!
