I am a ... Aries I think? Anyway, I could do it but...

If I was single, then yes, if I was to go with a friend I would rather pay more and have my own cabin, my own rules..

But since I am not single, I would miss my travel partner, the G/F. However, when and if she sleeps early, I do go out and about and meet new people, and am never bored.. So, Pros and Cons really..

I think single on a cruise is better then just being single and going to London.. Easier to meet people.

I have cruised solo in the meaning that I went alone... but met friends onboard... I am planning on sailing solo this October with some of the board members from here!!

Some cruise lines do offer specials for solos. Right now the MSC Orchestra for the 4/18/09 sailing has specials for solo cruisers... the inside cabin is ONLY $646 total for one person!! Not a bad deal!

I think there are quite a few solo cruisers...I have quite a few clients that cruise alone...

1st time solo & can't wait!

Hi all,

This fall I found an amazing deal w/ Carnival, and I'll be doing back to back E. & W. Caribbean cruises SOLO! I'm thrilled, as I love my own company, and since my hubby & kids have been traveling a lot for school/work the last two years--I though that I deserved a treat, too. I've never cruised w/ Carnival (only Princess, NCL, & Disney), but they already have my love/respect for the way they price their single supplement fare.
Quick question--they have the early, late, & now, dine as you like programs...any thoughts?? Also, I was just going to ask for the largest table, and go by the dining room after I board, and ask the Head Waiter/Maitrade (sp?) if they are putting a singles/solo travelers group together at one table.....my question is: Does anyone have any advice about this? I'm confident about everything else on the trip--but, this one has me a bit perplexed... Thanks! (Also, have you heard of any other good "solo" cruise deals, lately?)

~Liz

If I travel alone would prefer the main dining room and a large or medium table. Enjoy your back to back.

These days of deep discounts on cruises, going solo is not expensive. Doing a cruise for 150% single supplement is a good deal with lowered PPDO prices. Transatlantic prices are usually good. A 14 day cruise with 7 consecutive sea days is glorious.

I tend to be both single and solo.
Never have I done an organized singles cruise so I can't compare that to being a solo traveler.
Single does seem to imply that one is looking for other singles, so I'm more of a solo cruiser I suppose.

So far I have never travelled solo, but wouldn't rule it out. We have met and befriended many solo cruisers in my time. Don't know why this changed to italics, but it's okay. Lastly, to my fellow Geminis, you never travel alone.

People are simply so gregarious on these ships that being solo isn't an issue.

I'm married, but travel by myself, usually. I consider that to be solo cruising. If I wasn't married, then I'd consider myself to be a single cruiser.

Carnival, in my experience, place single/solo cruisers together at tables. Sometimes two gals or two fellows are in one cabin, so they're considered 'solo' cruisers and will be at these tables. One time I was at a table of about 10 of us...all solo, no sharing cabins. So sometimes there are lots of 'singles' on a ship.
I've noticed that on other cruiselines, a solo passenger is simply placed at a table whereever....

I just haven't found that perfect cabin mate. I've cruised with gals I've met on the other cruise boards, with friends from home......but I guess I'm fussy. To me, the perfect cruise arrangement (I think) would be to have my own cabin but have a friend with her own cabin and we'd get together for tours, dinner, etc.
One cruise, I met two other solo gals at a meet and greet thing. We really 'connected' and ate together every night. One gal and I did alot of touring together, because the third gal had already booked all her tours with the ship. We didn't get together during sea days because we didn't have similar interests in bingo, trivia, etc....but if we saw each other, then we'd chat and perhaps go to a function together if we both wanted to.
I still correspond quite regularily with one gal. The other gal was/is single and quite busy in her personal life/career, but we chat occasionally.
That was a wonderful cruise.
The one cruise that I went with a gal friend.....she had no ambition to do anything on her own. It was always..you lead the way..you be the tour guide...I'll just follow. I found that to be stressful. I prefer a more independant type. She had a good time, and has sort of shown that she'd like to cruise again.....but I guess I need more space. We're still great friends and do alot together......
Another few cruises I went with a gal who seemed nice and was nice...till she started drinking at 2pm till bedtime. Then we had to go to bed when she wanted all the lights off, no tv, etc. She was an early riser too....so guess what...we had to follow.
Lots of experiences, that's for sure!! No regrets, just a learning experience.

Traveling SOLO

I often travel SOLO and enjoy it greatly. It is a wonderful way to get away and not have to do anything but relax while the crew pampers you. Singles cruises are sometimes posted as such and the ship is loaded with other single folks.
