A friend of mine went on the Pride of Hawaii in the summer of 2007 with her two kids (I think 4 and 9). Her husband stayed home as he didn't want to try out a cruise (gasp! His idea of a vacation is to just drive down to Baja California and hang glide or go to Europe to visit his family).
Her only real complaint was that the kids' program got a little too rowdy for her 9-yr-old. There was a pajama party, and one of the activities was a pillow fight. The upshot was that her daughter re-broke an arm (original injury was the spring before). For the most part, she knew she wasn't going to be joining in any singles activities anyway (since she was married and had to watch her hyper 4-yr-old).
She isn't soured on cruising, just on NCL (for her). So if there is a cruise for single parents (but not necessarily for not-married ones, as there could be others in this group), maybe it would be the thing for her.
I would suggest that the dates are chosen with care though, if a TA wants to take this on. There would be more families able to travel in summertime and around the holidays. If there's a way to keep the price down (despite the demand), that would help.
