Question Cruising Single

Has anyone been on a cruise as a single OR with a single cruise? Pros and Cons?
I wouldn't want to share a room with someone I don't know...so is there anyway to beat the doubled price?

Thanks so much!

Lynette

Before he met me, my hubby went on a cruise by himself. He got paired with another guy and they hit it off. But then my hubby is friendly and easy to get along with.

This board is a good place to start for someone who wants to go on a cruise but doesn't have someone to go with (maybe family members or friends don't want to try this kind of vacation, etc). There's a singles section under "Cruise Topics" for the single would-be cruiser to try out. Maybe someone there is interested.

I've had a couple experiences as a 'single' cruiser. Both were initiated as 'guaranteed single'. That is I was assured of a room at the same price as that of a double occupancy but a cabin mate at the ship's arrangement. I met one of my truly 'most memorable characters' on one trip. [I'll write that story some other time.] Another time, I got a room to myself. On a third alternative I was part of a Catholic Singles group sponsored by the archdiocese of Detroit. I did two such trips and met the guys onboard ship for the first time. Coming from a particular shared background was our only connection. I got along with one better than the other but it was only a week and there were more than enough of us in total to have others to pair up with during the day. I don't know which line you're hoping to sail with. I understand lines are eliminating this option from the cruise offerings unless you're willing to pay a 50% supplemental surcharge in lieu of getting or not getting a room mate from the line. Perhaps someone more current will drop by to clarify the pricing variances now available.

Thank you for your response! I appreciate all of your thoughts and would love to hear your story! I once went on a Singles Cruise with a friend...not really alone...but our table mate was a bank teller by day and a porn novel writer at night. I'd be afraid to get paired with the likes of him!

thank you for your response...and the lead to "cruise topics".... I find people don't want to commit to the longer cruises that I want to take (which makes the cost even more when traveling alone)... I'm not looking for a swinging singles cruise... but have wondered about going on my own! Thanks again! Lynette

lol, was he looking for a co-author for his next chapter?? I'm pretty sure pairings done by the ship are mandatory same sex sharing.

I know...but women can be "different" too! On that same cruise, the thirtysomething Singles Cruise Director ended up becoming "involved" with an eighteen year old boy who was traveling with another eighteen year old boy. Just a different group! The bank teller was really nice...just odd.

and a horn bone like me would be looking for a 20 something 3-way. L.O.L. Could a single share our place and avoid the 50% singles surcharge? She would have to be able to withstand my spouse's snoring (I don't snore ).
