I have been on one cruise and while I was with a group, I was the only single with none of them really my age. I found that by being chatty, hitting the buffet, walking around deck, there are tons of other people who are there either alone or with groups like me who are hoping to meet other people their age to hang out with. It really was a lot easier than I thought it was going to be.
The next cruise I am going on is with my family: Dad, Mom, Brother, Sister, and I ...we range in age from 26 to well older While we love each other dearly and will spend time together, I am hoping it is as easy this time to meet people as it was last time Because i know we all won't want to do the same things.
I guess my biggest tip from my first time is talk to everyone, especially when in line, waiting on excursions, sitting at a show, ect. You will be amazed who you meet. I am still very good friends with one of the gals I met on the last ship (5 years ago)....I went to her wedding
I'm soooo glad I came acroos this thread! Being a receptionist, I always smile and say hi to people plus make small talk with alot of them. But then you have the people who don't smile and are just down right rude with snotty comments.
It's nice to hear that pretty much when your on a cruise that people are pretty much are friendly and will make conversation with you. I can talk pretty much to anyone...lol . If I don't it's not that I'm being rude, I have a shy side as well. I talk to all the guys at work all day, but there are times that I have a hard time cause of the shyness....
mel Never frown, even when you are sad, because you never know who is
falling in love with your smile.

Way to bring back an old but good thread... I think this might even be the second topic around here about this??
Anyway - Meeting people is easy on vacation, just go where people go. I find Bars easy because even if you do not drink, you can order something like a soda and just sit and listen to people and kind of laugh along and squeeze right into the convo...
I am shy too kinda but I am also very outgoing... Weird.
My dad once said I could make friends in prison

Most Solo Cruisers we've met tend to be self-assured and are comfortable traveling alone and meeting others.
NOT SO with some Couples sailing alone who aren't part of a group and have no friends/family with them! There are NO "Couples-Sailing-Alone" parties. Some coulples are painfully shy .... I make a big effort to think of a reason to start a conversation with couples who just seem so alone ... and then introduce them to any I know who happen to be walking by ... especially to some of the other shy ones I've met ....

This is sooo funny! I get in such a shy mood, that people tend to think I'm a witch, (but w/ a "w"...lmao) but I'm not. I get that way around people I don't know. Once I start talking I'm fine. I've been to sooo many parties w/ my bf where people talk to him, but I'm pretty much "invisable". But now you ask the guys I work with, they will tell you I will not hesitate to put them in their place when their in the wrong!! lol.... Half the time they tell their customers I'm like their "other wife"....hahaha

While I have met lots of people on cruises, I have yet to make a love connection. Some I have met were cruising solo but the true singles are rarely within my age range.
I did go to one of the singles get togethers on Explorer. We were shocked to find that most of the people there were couples. There I was with my brothers... We met one group of 4 who were single. Danced with them but they were a good 10 years younger than I was and the only other singles I met were at the Meet and Mingle and were a good 20 years older than me.

I do not know your age, by your avatar I would guess 25 .
Anyway, I thought women wanted a nice younger stronger man? Then I guess, that would only be good for fun, not to marry or seriously date huh?
Mel - I would not say I am "shy" I will talk to anyone, but I can be quiet? But I will jump in on a convo if I sense from the others it is okay... Hard to explain, I guess I get into moods where I might feel weird, but on the flip, I will sit at a bar and have a 1 hour convo about nothing, with anyone. Young, old, man, woman, mutant...
Let's quote RCL - "Get out there" that is the only way to meet people.
