    Regent Changes Dry-Dock, Cancels Cruises.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises, which had scheduled the Seven Seas Navigator for dry-dock in January in Charleston, S.C., has accelerated the work to take place Nov. 15 to Dec. 15 at the Lloyd Werft shipyard in Bremerhaven, Germany. The line said “unforeseen circumstances” forced the change. As a result, the Navigator’s cruises during that period have been cancelled. Regent Seven Seas sent letters to travel agents who had booked clients on those voyages. The line is offering alternate cruises with rebooking incentives. Clients who choose not to rebook will receive a full refund. The luxury line is protecting agent commissions on deposited bookings and will pay regular commission if they rebook clients on another voyage.

So did the ship yard give them too good a deal to miss, or is there something wrong with the ship that will not wait intil January?

One wonders what those "unforeseen circumstances" are.

I wish they would be honest and just tell what the problems are. It makes it sound far more serious when they put things in nebulous terns (Unless they announce that the "main engine had a microscopic crack that was all but undetected except by a lucky circumstance, no knowing how long it had been there, and if it had ruptured the whole ship would have gone up in a ball of flames?)

I'll bet the people who were booked on that cruise are doing OK. We were booked on a Regent (it was Radisson then) cruise and we learned they cancelled the trip because the company SOLD the ship we were on..it was destined to become a Chinese floating casino. After we'd paid in full for the trip!! But a few phone calls and emails later we got the deal of a lifetime on another Radisson cruise. We got an awesome way upgraded suite, great price, better itinerary, and so on. They are really the best at customer service and they were a joy to deal with.

From a customer's standpoint, I would want to know why the ship was being drydocked. But from a business owner's point of view, I can see how there might be some things they just don't want out there. A little knowledge can be a dangerous thing in the hands of the media and rumor mongers!

Ah, so that is how you got that fantastic Russia trip! Yes, it is terrible the way the press and rumor mongers take what is often a minor non-event and turn it into a mega news story.

I bet its the engine or the stabilizer since we are talking about the Seven Seas Navigator. That ship always had some problems.
Being to top heavy and listing 40 degrees are just a one example.
When I was on the Seven Seas Mariner and the ship lost its stabilizer the official story was "rope caught in the propeller".
No one knew we were cruising around for months with only one stabilizer.

When you say lost, do you mean it was no working or it was actually lost?
