We've been seniors for many years, but have never had a senior rate for any of our cruises!

Yeah, it's a rude awakening when you get your first invitation in the mail to join AARP!! lol

But as was stated, the best time to get the specials, whether it be for seniors, resident rates, military, etc, is during the off-seasons. That's when the cruise lines are trying to fill the ships and there's not alot of sells happening. For example, the middle of September is the best time for outstanding rates to the Caribbean and Alaska. In the Caribbean, it's the middle of hurricane season, plus families are all back to work and back to school. We like to travel at that time because that's when we get the best rates for our family. Yes, you have to be flexible and I recommend travel insurance, but there's no kids, which can also make for a quieter cruise.

Pete, you want to learn something scary? I got my first invitation in the mail to join AARP at age 40, and it seems that time really started flying by since that.Never mind that I've recieved two more invitations since then, and I'm still not 50 as yet

Well, just be thankful you haven't hit 50 yet! Everything seems to start falling apart after that. lol

Also, the senior rates aren't offered a year out...and many senior cruises plan in advance. If the sailing doesn't sell well, they may see a senior rate come up...but it will probably be more than their early price....for example...our Freedom of the seas Cruise in November...Our prices are almost half the cost of what they are currently running, because we booked a year and a half in advance...they have since offered senior rates, which I am surprised...but they are actually more money than we all paid when we deposited wayyy back when...

AARP...LOL...I haven't received anything yet...I have a few years to go before that mail starts coming...like what 10 + years...I turn 40 this year! Our friends keep trying to trick me into telling them when MY birthday is...NOPE...my family is under strict warning not to give out that information.

Most senior citizen cruisers (l am one too) have been fun and easy to get to know. Seniors are loving life and gladly accept the joys it brings. Their children are grown and living their own lives (hopefully), so now they (the seniors) can lead a carefree life. Seniors are just like other folks, a bit wiser in some cases.

Getting old is not a bad thing, after all who wants to die young? Remaining forever young is just not gonna happen. You may look young, feel young, but agewise, you are what you are.
