I think the benefit of having a representative on board and cruising with you would be great. Especially for first time cruisers who might be nervous and not knowing what to expect.

That is one thing I don't think I need.

I just got an application for AARP in the mail today and is wondering if there are actual discounts in general that would make it worthwhile joining. We can only go on cruises when my daughter is out of school so many of the others listed on their website and with other groups, including Princess, won't be relevant to us. We're members of the Auto Club so the few times we stay in a hotel would often be discounted with that membership. And since our Alaskan cruise in 2004, we have stayed only one night in a hotel, so we're not talking a major need.
I'm guessing, from looking at the website, that there's AARP discounts on selected sailings for Celebrity, Crystal and Hal only. That leaves out many options here.
