The irony of this whole thing is that government policy (i.e. taxes) which make it difficult to enjoy life, are also part of the reason we are retiring from teaching. Federal and State regulations on education (i.e. Mr Bush's no child left behind) have made it so we don't feel we can educate children the way we are used to. In the past couple years I spend as much as 1/3 of my contact time testing, evaluating and filing paper work. I often say that today being a teacher means you have to spend more time proving you are doing what you are supposed to be doing than actually doing what it is you are supposed to be doing. NCLB means; a) bring the student body down to the level of the slowest or b)you pass them all.

Sorry for the soap box, but this strikes a nerve:frustrate

You're not the only teacher I've heard frustrated by NCLB. I've seen special reports on cable TV and heard other teachers vent about it.

Thank you! Too bad Bush et. al. don't listen.

It's so sad because in the past two or three years I have seen too many highly respected teachers, both young and old, leave the field because of these frustrations. I teach construction, my students build a house from start to finish. It's fun but the other stuff is TOO MUCH.
I have a home design/home improvement buisness and skills I can use to make money. Hell I can work at a home improvement store and, along with my pension make more than I am now. But I will miss the kids.

Getting back on topic, what do seniors need, a good drink, with a young babe with big ... to serve it to him (sorry ladies it's a guy thing)

I'll drink to that....or at least I would if some body like that would serve it to me.

I have great admiration for teachers. My son is a professor of Chemistry at a Canadian university and I hear many stories about having to deal with politics instead of just getting on with the job.
