    Texas is a big place....
We were down that way last year when we sailed on the Rhapsody out of Galveston. It was a bit surprising that is was colder in Texas than it was up here. It was in January and it had snowed the week before we got there.
The snow you are talking about is the storm we were lucky enough to experience on our cruise.
We were 3 hours late getting into Galveston due to it. Lots of people were sick on the ship.
We saw snow men in yards on our way back to the hotel and out of Galveston(they even have post cards now from that which I was lucky enough to find and buy).
We live in Harker Heights which is town outside of Ft. Hood.
We are aprox. 60 miles North of Austin.
We like cruising out of Galveston it is very convienient. We drive down a day before and stay at a hotel.
Houston terminal is OK but I prefer Galveston due to the traffic being horrible in Houston yuck.

You may get a chance to see some of out wonderful traffic when you are here. You won't be in any of he real bad areas of traffic but you might see a sample.

Afraid to rent a car in an unfamiliar area so will take the bus and leave the driving to someone else

That may be a good idea. Downtown Seattle can be confusing with one-way streets dead-ends and 3rd avenue not allowing cars during some hours.

Now if that doesn't tell you that I would be a fool to try to drive in your big city nothing does.
I would probably get into an accident within the 1st few hours of driving so I will just take the bus.
Plus I am on vacation, that is unwanted stress:frustrate
so a bus riding we will go.
