Also, while you are at Pike Place watching the flying fish, right across the street is the very first Starbuck's. That's the one everyone wants the gift cards from. They are special

Try the Smith Tower, it has the old, old elevators that still have an elevator operator. Takes you up to the 32nd floor (I think that was the number)

There is a great observation area done up in old Oriental style furniture and make sure you look at the ceiling. You can walk around a catwalk outside the building for some awesome views or stay inside and look out the windows at the view.

hi Lynn, I've done that and it turned out to be a real adventure with my fear of heights It was the tallest building around for a very long time I'm assuming that is you in the pic. You are beautiful

Yes, that's me and thank you for the compliment but you are being way to generous!!

I have a severe fear of heights and it was a real challenge for me also. I actually stayed inside and my hubby went outside with the camera! I tried but only got about 5 feet and hurried back inside!!

There's a particularly great sculpture that has something to do with waves, but reminded me of ocean liners ...see if you can find it!

Also, any restaurant by Tom Douglas is a treat...we were in four: Dahlia's for cocktails, Dahlia's bakery for lunch (cafe table on the sidewalk) Etta's for dinner (right near Pike's Market) and Lola for a reunion dinner with cruise friends. His coconut Cream pie is to die for! Food and atmosphere struck just the right balance of fun, hip, gourmet, but feeling more like a local than a tourist. (Although Etta's had a number of tourists there...)

Lastly, our hotel was AMAZING....a little pricey at $225. a night, but one of the nicest we've stayed in. Hotel 1000 right in downtown.

We went to Sculpture Park for the fist time last month when we were here playing tourist on the Serenade. It is very interesting.

We listened to a mother explaining to her son what this was:

When it was built, the Smith Tower was the tallest building west of the Mississippi.
I believe it was built in 1923.

Blizzard,

I knew instantly what the eraser was...my partner didn't...amazing what six years' difference does make!

And yes, that's the one I think looks like many ocean liners lined up...loved walking through it.
