I would imagine the really major types (zillions of cruises on the cruiseline in the most expensive suites) are more likely to get an invite to the captain's table than either you or me. There are over 2000 passengers on the Sapphire (BTW, it's a really nice ship) and so many meals that the captain will eat during the week.
We haven't been to the party during the first formal night on Princess so I don't know if you actually get to meet the captain then. But on your second Princess cruise on, you'll get an invite to the Captain's Circle Party. We went to the one on the Sapphire and after standing in line to get in, you get a chance to meet the captain and post for a photo. Then you get free drinks (watered down) and canapes as the three with the most cruises get to go up and get a prize from the captain.
