Thanks for the recommendation, Victor. Most people visit El Morro, and don't realize that San Cristobal is also open for tours. While it is not as picturesque as El Morro, there is a lot of WWII history at San Cristobal as well as colonial history.

Glad to know about the show on Tuesdays now.

We were just in San Juan on Freedom of the Seas in September. A colleague of mine who is from San Juan happened to be there for several months to care for her 97-year-old mother. My colleague interviewed and then hired a professional tour guide, bodyguard, personal security guy meet my mom, sister, wife and myself at the ship and give us a tour of San Juan. What a great time we had!!!

The guide had some interesting stories to tell about San juan and some of the actors for whom he has provided security. Very interesting!!

I think the big reason why ships get into San Juan so late is a matter of simple logistics. HAL has the advantage of having a private island in the Bahamas so they schedule it first which gives a whole day in Puerto Rico. Otherwise ships have to do the full trip from Florida which is just far enough to barely get you into port in the evening but not soon enough to give you a full day. Rather than put in a second day at sea at the start of the cruise, most lines prefer to add a quick stop in Puerto Rico if only to claim another port.
