Old San Juan Walking Tour

What did you think of this Excursion?
(Carnival version listed)

Old San Juan Walking Tour 2.50 hours $35.00*
Delve into Puerto Rico’s history and architecture on this stroll through the streets of Old San Juan.

On this excursion you will:
  • Take a short bus ride from the pier to San Felipe del Morro Castle and Museum.
  • Begin your walking tour accompanied by your guide.
  • Take in the amazing views of the San Juan Bay before walking through the Ballaja Barracks building.
  • Visit Las Americas Museum and continue through Quincentennial Square and San Jose Square.
  • See the gothic architecture of San Jose Church as you proceed down the narrow cobblestone streets to La Rogativa monument.
  • Make a brief stop for photos and to purchase refreshments from a local vendor.
  • Visit San Juan Bautista Cathedral and Cristo’s Chapel.
  • Shop at Cristos Street and Fortaleza before walking through the Old City and back to your ship.
Note: Comfortable walking shoes are highly recommended.

a walking tour of old San Juan is the best thing to do.
You can do it alone just make sure that you go into the fort.
You can find a group tour and you can even find a private tour/
See signature for more details.
Now if you are in old San Juan on a Tuesday at about 6 pm dont miss the folkloric show at Fort San Cristobal

Old San Juan Walking Tour 2.50 hours $35.00* .....
I took this cruise last week. It says that the capacity is limited, but what they did was add an extra tour group so that there were two walking tours pretty much together.

"MY" tour was the pits. It was a waste of time and money. The guide was difficult to understand. We didn't get enough time at any of the places we visited.

When it comes to San Juan, I am NOT one of the cognoscenti, but from the very limited checking out I did before the cruise, I knew many things about what we saw that the guide did not tell us. "MY" tour sucked. I was sharing this with a guy who happened to be on the brother tour to the one I took. He loved his tour. His guide was much better than mine. He even saw us on the tour and remarked that my guide was rushing us.

It is hit or miss with this tour. It has potential to be great.

I took a night walking tour and really liked it. They have a daytime one also, but it seems to only be for groups (or individuals with lots of money).

A night tale tour with Legends of Puerto Rico is definitely a great experience but you might want to consider for a next time Colonial walking tours at 787 793 2992 and see signature below for more options.

Victor -
What about tours for those who are not able to do a lot of walking? (My DH has a limited amount of stamina - especially when it comes to doing a lot of uphill walking)

We tried walking to El Morro, were unable to see it, as it was just too strenuous for him. But, we DID enjoy the stroll around by the water - that was beautiful!

Is there a riding tour that is offered?

Response to Canary Moon and Solo1959.......................................... .
Hello Canary moon, yes walking up hill in high humidity and a hot tropical sun is not easy and yes there can be a driving tour that will take you to see other areas and end at the old city so you can walk down hill on your own/.

Hello Solo1959, sorry to hear that you didnt enjoy the walking tour off the ship.
What can I tell you , things happenned.
You could have been on another tour and it could have turn out wrong too.
But please keep in mind that it did not work for you this time, possibly cause it was the cruise ship tour or simply the tour guide but we hope that you visit San Juan again. Maybe next time you can find another option.
As you can see on this thread, Zydecocruiser enjoy his/her walking tour with Legends of Puerto Rico.
Next time check out my signature and Im sure we can find a neat option.

Thank you very much. I do know that it is hit or miss. People who were on the "other" tour loved it. Both tours were ship's excursions. It was just the tour guide we chanced to have this tour. Before the cruise, I found a few tour agencies in San Juan. I called them on the telephone and they suggested to me that I take the ship's walking tour excursion. So the ship recommended it and so did the local tour agencies. It was simply bad luck with the specific guide we had. I'm OK with it. But thank you, and next trip there I WILL let you know.
