If you're prepared to spend a few $, and are interested a bit of history, have a look at the El San Juan ( San Juan Puerto Rico Hotels & Beachfront Resorts - El San Juan Hotel & Casino ) and click the "Photos" button in the lower right of the pictures.

You'll get way more pool and beach than you'll know what to do with. You won't need to wander for great food, either. Haven't been there since April '05, but it was a very classy and comfortable place at that time.

thanks for all the input. we decided to stay at the Hampton Inn and Suites. We booked rooms at fairly cheap price. its not on the beach but not far either. for one night this hotel looks ok. read a lot of good reviews. if anybody has stayed here i would appreciate any feedback on that as well. thanks a bunch.

We once spent a week at the El San Juan and it was fabulous.

I booked on Priceline just two weeks ago for our September 07 cruise. Had to go as high as $100 to get a hotel. I thought Priceline would have had better prices. On BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum others quoted bids being accepted for $65, and that was more "in season" than our September visit. We got the Normandie Hotel, right next to the Carib Hilton. It looks OK but I would rather have gotten the Carib Hilton.

Does anyone know how long it will take to get to the Pan American Pier from the area of our hotel?

    Thanks!

normandie hotel to pan am pier

go to the website hotelsbythepier.com. look up san juan puerto rico and you should be able to find the hotel, or one close to it. you will be able to see how far it is to the pier.

We got the Coutryard Marriott Isle Verde for our January cruise on Priceline. From what I've read, it sounds like a nice place.

    Thumbs up

We stayed post cruise at the Marriott in Condado area, 2 adults, 2 teenage girls, plenty of space in one room for all of us with a great balcony overlooking pool and beach. Beautiful pool (altho shaded a good part of the day, lounges in the sun get grabbed quick) and beach(be careful, very strong undertow, but shallow quite a ways out), terrific staff, had a great time. About 15-20 minute cab ride from pier 4, old San Juan area and airport. We booked last minute thru hotel, could definately gotten a better price elsewhere, but it was worth not having to fly home to a blizzard the day we got off the ship!

    o

We just booked the Holiday Inn Express, Condado (Coronado is near San Diego!). We would like to take a nice long walk on the beach. Can we do that on the beach nearby? Thanks

Dont know if this is in the same area as the one where we stayed or nnot, but we did take a couple of interesting walks from our hotel

We did take a short walk on the beach... the surf looked quite rough when we were there, so we just walked.... and there is a park-like area on the oceanfront that was not spectacular, but enjoyabale.

We also walked along the beachfront street for several blocks, and found a quaint little neighborhood restaurant, where we had a very ehjoyable dinner. We found it by leaving the HI Exp, wlalking toward the water, and turning right at the main street along the beach. It was three or four blocks down, on the right. I do not remember the name of it, however.

We've stayed at the Normandie a boutique hotel very nice but not near anything in my opinion. Getting to the pier was ok once the taxi arrived.

Second time we stayed at a Courtyard by Marriott very convenient and it was well priced. They also had taxis queued up for the short trip to the pier.

For Adventure in October I went with Priceline and managed to get San Juan Marriott Resort and Stellairis Casino for just over $100.

    Hope this helps.
