The DeYoung

The deYoung

For many years, the de Young sat across from the California Academy of Scienc in Golden Gate Park. They will again one day. But for now, the Academy (as it is known locally) is on Howard Street at 5th and the NEW deYoung is just opened in the location of the old one in GoldenGate Park. To fund the construction of the new structure, the Board of Supervisors guranteed a $130,000,000 bond issue through the Association of Bay Area Governments. Over time, the money will be returned.

So, take a look at their site. Take time for a lunch in the new structure. I am interested in your comments about the design. I was opposed to it but have been wrong and am thinking that this is another of those occasions.

The big guys, Rembrandt, Picasso, Van Gogh are all there. Bedroom sets, silver and on and on.

A Picasso story: Some years ago, Picasso hand drew Christmas season cards for about 200 friends. One lady of prominance commented, "With his money, you would think he would at least buy a box of cards".

The cards are sold in galleries for about $10K when they are available.

Unlike this lady, San Francisco recognizes that the deYoung is a treasure.

I do hope you enjoy it.
