San Francisco Points of Interest

San Francisco is a very lively and eclectic city. Some of San Francisco's points of interest for those of you who are planning to spend some time in or near the city are as follows:

Palance of Fine Arts - Very intersting and quiet little place. Easily missed. Its on the way to crossing the Golden Gate Bridge. There's a nice lake where you can picnic on the grass and just people watch

Lombard Street - if you have a car, its always fun to drive down Lombard Street, the crookedest street in the world.

Chinatown - the largest Chinatown in North America. Great food. Interesting markets.

Alcatraz - A trip to San Francisco would be incomplete without a ferry ride out to the infamous Alcatraz

Ghiradelli Square - The world famous Ghiradelli chocolate shop is here, well worth a visit and stroll around the area. A great stage set up for childrens performances

Fisherman's Wharf - great walking area. Good fresh seafood. Good strolling and shopping area.

Pier 39 - In the Fisherman's Wharf Area. A great outdoor walking pier with shopping and food. The famous sea lions of San Francisco like to call this place home!

UC Berkeley - take a drive over to Berekeley. a well known liberal town. take a tour of the college and walk the streets of this quinetessential college town.

Stanford - take a drive down south for a bit and visit the affluent area of Palo Alto and its famous resident, Stanford University. a gorgeous campus in a gorgeous city.

Monterey Bay Aquarium - take a drive a few hours south of San Francisco and arrive a the seaside town of Monterey. Very pretty and picturesque. The famous Monterey Bay Aquarium is not to be missed!

Carmel - for the golfers, a trip a few hours south of San Francisco to see and play on Pebble Beach and drive along Seventeen Mile Drive is well worth it!

Pac Bell Park - the brand new home to the San Francisco Giants is a thing of beauty. take a daytime tour of the park.

Golden Gate Bridge - no trip to San Francisco is complete without going out to the Golden Gate Bridge and taking some obligatory photographs.

I loved San Francisco when we were the on a Repo cruise in 2003. We were there from 8:00 am to 11:00pm and still did not see enough. I liked the tall ships down there at the Maritime Museum, and there was no charge to visit them because of some anniversary or something. We are considering a romantic getaway to SF in the near future......My DW is so deserving of a break, she is so good to me, yada yada yada ........

Don't forget:

Union Square -for Shopping!

Ferry Building - newly renovated and is now an upscale Farmer's Market with a Scharffen-Berger Chocolate booth, Cowgirl Creamery and a Wine purveyor as well as the famous Slanted Door Restaurant. Her architechture has been miraculously restored!

View bars? I recommend 3. 1) The Top O' the Mark at the Mark Hopkins Intercontinental Hotel. 2) The Fairmont Hotel tower top bar and 3) the 36th floor of the Grand Hyatt on Union Square. All have beautiful views of the most beautiful City!

Yank Sing restaraunt for dim sum! (I think there might be 2 or 3 locations now.)

SF MOMA and the area aurrounding the Metreon - a Sony entertainment complex. The Metreon may not be the best palce to go for a visit from a cruise unless you really want to see a movie or play video games or go virtual bowling, but the grounds that connect it to the Museum of Modern Art are nice.

So MUCH more too!

Golden Gate Park is another wonderful place to visit. There's an arboreteum and an aquarium there as well as local artists performing their crafts. Great place to picnic as well!!!

When we went to SF and Union Square, we ate at this 50's style Diner called "Lauries Diner" It was great, an inspiration for us to design a bar area off our theatre room.....Anyone else been there? I think this might even be a chain...... :headbang2
