In SF, summer usually means fog, although it does burn off by mid-late morning. In June you should have beautiful weather.

There are a lot of very nice boutique hotels around Union Square. We have stayed at the Clift, which is not a boutique hotel per se, but is one of the oldest in the city. It was rennovated a few years ago and is supposed to lovely. The location, on Geary, is about two blocks from Union Square and one block from the American Conservatory Theater. Also wonderful is the Westin St. Francis.

Not sure if anyone mentioned North Beach, but it's one of my favorite places. It's home of City Lights Books -- home of the beat generation, and dozens of outstanding Italian restaurants. For a romantic dinner, consider Contadina Trattoria (or Trattoria Contadina...I forget) on Mason, one block off Columbus. The food is terrific. Also great are the Washington Sq. Bar & Grill and Moose's (Moose's was started by one of the original owners of the Wash. Sq.). These are popular with locals as well as tourists.

For a fun evening, consider taking in Beach Blanket Babylon on Green St. in North Beach. It's a musical revue that's been in SF for a zillion years and is great! Check out the website.

I think that's it...I know that whatever you choose to do you'll have a great time -- hard to have a lousy time in that magical city!

Talking

You can also take a tour bus across the golden gate bridge if you want to travel over it and back and dont have a rental car. You can get anywhere in SF by bus! No rental car needed

I guess it was about '74 or '75 when I met two guys redoing a house in the avenues. Just a couple of blocks from the ocean. The upstairs was rented to a family of three and the wife was a performer.

She tried out and got the lead in beach blanket babalon goes bannanas.

It has gone through many changes since then. And is a Must. Absolutely.

TerilynnS is right on.

The prince of Wales and his wife saw it during their visit. There is nothing like it anywhere.

At other places there is mention of the California Academy of Science. One thing never mentioned is their student docent program. This is not the kind of thing a visitor to the city would ever consider. But.... Last spring, a bunch (200 to 300) students tried out for half a dozen positions as student docent. The chosen get training. That alone would set them up for any science class in high school. But they also get work experience. And they get paid.

So when you visit and the tour guide seems a bit young, they may be high school students.

This is just an aside that I think makes the visit a bit more personal.
