Sail under the Golden Gate Bridge into this sparkling city set on a broad bay. Among favorite attractions are the well-preserved Victorian structures known as the "Painted Ladies," Fisherman's Wharf, North Beach and Ghirardelli Square, a former chocolate factory that's now a complex of stores and restaurants. Experience the sights, sounds and flavors of Chinatown, head for the shops and cafes of Union Square, or hop on a trolley for a narrated tour of downtown. The scenic Napa Valley wine country is nearby.

Driving Directions and Parking Information
Port of San Francisco
Pier 35
San Francisco, CA 94111
The Port of San Francisco (Pier 35) is located midway between the Bay Bridge and Fisherman's Wharf. Parking is available at the pier and is $14.00 per day (rates subject to change by Port Authority).
Traveling From the North - On 101 Southbound, take the Lombard Street exit. Take Lombard East approximately 1.5 miles and turn left on Van Ness. Turn right on Bay Street, then proceed 1 mile to the Embarcadero. Turn left on Embarcadero, and Pier 35 is immediately to the right. Traveling From the South - On 280 Northbound, exit at the end of 280 Freeway at King. Continue 3 blocks on King until it turns into Embarcadero. Pier 35 is approximately 2 miles ahead to the right.
If you are stopping in San Francisco as a port call, Fisherman's Wharf, Ghirardelli Square and Pier 39 (shopping area) are all within an easy walk of pier 35.
It might be an easy walk, but remember to bring a jacket. Pretty chilly by the bay.

Does anyone know how close the Marriott Long Wharf is to the cruise ship terminal.Do I need a cab or can I schellp my bags to the ship.
The only Marriott Long Wharf I could locate is in Boston.
The Marriott Fisherman's Wharf is located about 7 blocks from the cruise terminal (Pier 35)... It depends on how far you want to schellp them.

I would like to add to the information in this post but am curious about the length of stay in a port. I would have different items for a one, two or three day stay. Even a few hours could be filled with lots of really neat things.

Ed,
Since San Franisco is a port of embarkation, some people come early or stay after their cruise. Therefore information for a few hours up to a coule days would be usefull. Also some idea on where to stay pre or post cruise.

San Francisco is also a port-of-call for the repositioning cruises in May and September. I'm really glad I found this. I'm very familiar with San Francisco but I did not know where the cruise port was located.

One venue that would go unnoticed is Yerba Buena Gardens. Located between Howard and Folsom, 3rd and 4th (sits on top of the Moscone convention center).
The Rooftop -
An old carousel, an ice skating rink (415) 777-3727, a bowling center, a high tech hands on arts center called Zeum (415) 777-2800 www.zeum.org My grandson and I did a claymation piece and filmed our creations in motion in about an hour and a half. Not pixar quality but lots of fun. The staff then puts it on cd for us to take home to share and keep.

I would also recommend checking out Golden Gate Park. There's a wonderful aquarium and museums and an arboretum. A great way to spend a day in San Francisco.
