    Power Outage at sea

I've just seen a story that reported the Emerald Princess lost power at sea between Port Everglades and Princess Cays. For something like four hours!

I find that just a little scary! Especially at this time of year when the a/c would be much more necessary than later in the year!

Has anyone been aboard any ship which has lost power? Where? When? What happened? Tell All!

Four hours really isn't so long. Surely, is nice when comes back on!

We've lost power for a few hours on several cruises. I always keep a tiny flash light in my makeup case to use to get to the regular flashlight in our "things we may need" stuff in a suitcase under the bed. Even when it happens in the daylight hours and in a balcony cabin, it's hard to see in the bathroom and closet.

The worst for us was a long time ago on Sky Princess when the electricy and ship was totally stopped for two and a half days (techs came in by helicoper) ... just floated around at sea. The emergency generators were used to keep the food cold/frozen. Unfortunately, ice was not a priority ... but all bar drinks were FREE ... just with very limited ice. Everyone make the best of it and we were given 1/2 on ANY future cruise. Everyone made the best of a bad situation and helped each other out.

I know that it occasionally happens but we have been fortunate to never have it happen on a ship while we were on it.

    Lulu,

I can not imagine 2 1/2 days without main power. Were they able to keep the beer cold?

No! Just getting a couple of ice cubes was a problem ... even the Brits were complaining!

    I like Blizzard's obvious priorities!

I'd suggest getting a party of folks together to search out a huge mesh bag and several strong ropes. Fill the bag with beer, drop the bag overboard, being careful not to let go of the ropes. The water'd probably be cooler than anyplace else. Or, maybe it'd be easier to just fill the pools!?

I was thinking about lowering some beer into the water.
It would at least help some.

Ah, I remember the fun I had trying to get ice in London. For the Brits to complain, it must have been really, really bad.
