A Canadian patrol ship picked up a boatload of pirates today! Definitely pirates, they had guns and grenade launchers.

Hopefully confiscate the guns, confiscate the grenade launchers, confiscate the boats, and make them swim home.

    It's getting serious, folks:
    http://www.cruiselinefans.com/africa...th-threat.html

Before you think "Well, this has nothing to do with cruising," think again.

While rare, there have been attacks on cruise ships. Yes, it's on the other side of the world, but the money these thugs are raking in is astronomical, and they appear to be both widening their 'range' and escalating their level of violence. No doubt the millions they are pocketing is making them braver. How long can it be before the profit motive affects other black hearted souls with thoughts of pulling similar operatioins in other waters???>

The solution is quite simple. Set up a network of remote controlled drones with harpoon missiles. Let whoever wants, control the drones for a fee. When a suspect pirate ship is spotted the person on the drone can signal to the Navy which can then evaluate the target and if the target checks positive, shoot off the harpoon missile.

The person who is marked with the spot is awarded a prize of $50,000.

We solve the problem of the large surface area with no one to patrol it. The system can pay for itself with the fees. Finally the prizes will keep people playing.

    It has happened . . .
Granted, it isn't a major mass market line, but Star Clippers is leaving the far east for now, due to the threat of piracy. Here is the lilnk to the thread in the Star Clilppers forum:

It just isn't worth it. There is too much risk for too little rewards for the cruise lines. And the big losers are the honest people in the ports who lose the business.
