Exclamation How Safe are Cabin Safes?

We had sort of a funny problem once on a Celebrity ship.

When we arrived in our cabin, there was NO safe! Natually, we called and they suggested we check our closet again. They thought we were crazy and sent someone down to help "dumb cruisers" find it.

    There really was NO safe!

Turns out, they were replacing the safe becasue of many problems with it from previous cruisers.

All they do is UNBOLT it!

Even knowing this ... we continue to use cabin safes ....

Any commentes from others would be appreciated!

We always use the safe and I really don't worry about it. What the heck? If it's gonna go, it's gonna go.

The tip I've seen many times is to put your things in a ziplock bag before putting them into a safe. That way you won't accidentally leave something behind.

Also if the safe works on a card reader system, bring along a card that you never use otherwise; don't use a credit card. If you're using a punch in system (you set a code), make sure everyone in your cabin knows the number.

We always use the safe. Every once in awhile there have been problems when we first try to use it, but they have been resolved quickly and without any loss of security for us.

It sure beats having to go to the purser's desk to use the safe deposit boxes like we used to do before the advent of in-room safes.

LuLu, if I had to worry about that, I'll always be panicking. Every device like an in-room safe is bolted down. The only people who knows how to unbolt it is the ships maintenance personnel, and unless you have a maintenance issue where they have to enter your cabin while you're ashore, then one can worry if they wish.

    Yes, we use them.

We always use our safe. A cruise is practically the only time I can get to wear my good jewelry. Of course not in port, if I get off the ship the family jewels stay in the safe. We had a problem once or twice, but it was my fault I entered the wrong code.

We have been pretty lucky because only once did we have a problem with a safe in the cabin. It was fixed very quickly.

In one of the suites that we stayed in there were 2 safes. I do not know if it was a him and her situation or what. I thought it was kind of funny because we certainly did not have enough to fill both up!

We always use the safes. Here's a tip for the card swipe ones:

In addition to using a not-so-important card, we like to hide our card in our Bonine box which sits in the bathroom. This way if someone tries to break into our safe they'll have a difficult time finding the card to open the safe.
