Question "Ill At Ease"... Even felt that way in a port?

Have you ever felt "Ill At Ease" in any port worldwide?

Are there some ports where you always feel less safe than in others?

I have in Jamaica, I don't get off the ship there anymore.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Naples did it for me. I don't know quite why but it just felt threatening.

    This may sound strange!

In the British Isles and Northern Europe we always have felt completely comfortable and safe. While we love the Caribbean, there have been times in various of the island ports there where I have felt somewhat "ill at ease".

Castries, St. Lucia did it to us last month. Not threatened but harrassed back to the ship by street vendors.

The only time we have felt unsafe, was not in a cruise port, but Detroit, midday it seemed strange, nothing happened, but was glad to leave the City. Just passing through from Windsor where we had used VIA from Niagra and catching an Amtrak train to Chigago.

San Francisco explored the outskirts and decided to catch a bus back to the city, we were told not to be in this area at night.

New Orleans we had a bus pass, Diane wanted to see a certain place, and seeing a bus going there at night, hopped on. After about twenty minutes the bus stopped, driver asked us where we were going, told him. "Oh no you aren't, see those two lights approaching, that's the bus back and you are going to be on it. Can't remember where the place was, but often wondered what we would have found if we had continued. Little doubt that bus driver deserves praise.

    I love America.

I was a bit uncomfortable in Jamaica. But if you have a man around, it isn't too bad. Also, in the DR. Military police walking around with loaded machine guns. I figured there must be a reason.

    Stephen, I agree!
The area right off the ship wasn't bad, but the heart of the City (we were looking for a museum and never did find it) can be real intimidating!

I felt a bit uncomfortable in Egypt, even though we had armmed guards.

Once in Barbados with DH as we walked we got away from the main area. As I looked around the surrounds had changed, made me feel uncomfortable. I told DH to hold my hand and walk briskly. Fortunately I had been there before and saw a church top I recognized and we headed towards it and back to the main area.

Janice and I were out walking in Barcelona and decided not to venture too far from our hotel the night before the cruise.

Also my first time to Antigua as we were walking around the town after our beach tour I felt uncomfortable. Didn't feel that way the next time I was there.
