Arrow Any way to "flag" someone from getting off the ship in ports without supervision?

Is it possible to "flag" someone's cruise card to keep him from leaving the ship on port stops without supervision?

There was a family group on our last cruise that included older grandparents. Grandpa got confused easily and always wore his cruise call around his neck.

It was rainy in Cozumel so Grandma and Grandpa planned to stay on the ship while the others went into town. After lunch Grandma and Grandpa decided to take a nap. While Grandma was napping, Grandpa managed to wander off the ship.

Once the children were back, they informed secruity. They could tell he was indeed off the ship because he had to use his cruise card to do so. Security was very helpful and the ship was late leaving.

Fortunately, Grandpa tried to board a Carnival ship and they helpfully walked with him to our Princess ship.

While certainly he was his the family's responsibility, things like this do happen. The family felt horrible and in no way blamed the ship. Just the opposite! Security was great to them.

Still .... seems the ship could put some sort of code on cruise cards of those with certain issues.

What are your thoughts on this?

Should be fairly easy to do this since I suspect they do it with minors.

I would think it could be done. Neal and Sue have good points. I am sure that the ship can take care of it. I would suggest speaking to the pursers desk and if that can not do it speak to security.

I would hope so. I wonder if the security people at the gangway will check with the front desk if anyone tries to leave the ship if they seem disoriented or are very young (younger than teenaged).

I agree with Neal. Maybe they should put the same restrictions on the "challenged". Wristbands?

Grandpa's daughter told me that they would have hidden his cruise card while they were in port if they'd had any idea he might wander off the ship. They really thought Grandma would be with him the entire time.

Everyone was so pleased with how concerned and helpful security was on our ship. Also, how nice of Carnival security to actually stay with him until he was safely back on correct ship!

Thing is .... many others could be like this family and not think in advance to take the cruise card away.

On the other hand, Carnival security knew where he belonged because he had his cruise card around his neck.

I know that if there is a problem with your account and you try to disembark at the end of the cruise a warning goes off as they scan the card. Presumably a warning can be attached to alert gangway staff in ports.
