I like that idea of carrying an emergency list with you. I've read some people will scan in their passport into their computer and email a copy of those pages to a reliable friend.

I remember on our Western Caribbean cruise when the port talk and Capers explained how to tell a legit taxi, imploring everyone to avoid other vehicles.
