At the markets you have to Bargain! Baragain and Bargain!!! - they will add to the price because you are a tourist. The grocery stores are expensive.
Italy is exspensive in general and Venice in paticular.

I did write a trip report from out Legend of the seas cruise to Italy last summer. There are a lot of pictures and info, if you need it.

How do I get the info you referred to? Also, I checked and the grocery stores take all kinds of charge cards ( Amer. Express, Visa, Mst.card) so I'm safe. Do you the the groceries are more expensive than eating out?????

Hi!! Yes, Hanna was at the other site and suggested that I check here too for various things. I've gotten some good suggestions. But I'm not finding anybody else that travel this one to share our private tours with. But...we might not need it with our other site success! We are under another "Tornado Watch"..Oh! but to live in Florida again!!!

Here is a link to the trip report:
http://www.cruiselinefans.com/trip-r...y-croatia.html (Legend of the seas *June 2-15 2008* Italy and Croatia)

The Golden rule in Venice, as you might know already, is to eat, shop as far away from St. Marks Square as possible. As far away as you can get from the main tourist areas the more inexspensive restaurants and groceries get.
A coffee will set you back almost Euros 10 at the square.

Mom and I are tossing around the idea of taking a bag of coffee with us since we'll have a furnished apt. & kitchen! We are not in Venice to eat...we want to see the sites and save our calories for the ship and our $$ for shopping!!!! I guess our coffee pots are similar. Do you know something I don't??

The Italian coffee is the best in the world!! Doesnt your kitchen come with a coffee pot???

You might find this kind of coffee pot in your apartment.
