Thought I would jump in on this. I sailed the Freedom in October and after doing traditional dining for years, and having a tough summer we wanted to just relax and not do traditional every night, as well as cut down on dressing for dinner. So for the first time we chose anytime but did not want to use the My Time dining room either. We prepaid our tips and ate all three meals, every day, in the buffet. It was awesome. Even though it was the buffet we found we had the same waiter at "our" table every night & we got there "around" 6 each night & he had our drinks waiting at the table. Unreal. Also we ate breakfast & lunch in another area & the waiter then also came to visit during our dinner meal. Needless to say they were tipped very well.Because it was so wonderful we booked 2 more cruises for 2012 on the Jewel out of Tampa, 5 day for each, and we booked my time again. The first in April, My Time was waitlisted. As we did not need a table in the dining room, Buffet again, I emailed RC, RCLDining@rccl.com, and explained we wanted all meals in the buffet & wanted to be sure our prepaid tips went to the correct place. In 2 days I recieved a reply that our waitlist was cancelled and our status changed. As we did last time we will tell the maiter d as soon as we board to let them know a table was not required for us. The second cruise booked is not till Dec 2012 so we are not waitlisted for that one. It was so relaxing and enjoyable I do not see going back to traditional again.
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.
Variety. Some people just like different things. We still like the formality of set seating and fought hard for it on our last cruise. It took us three of the five days to get everything settled but it was worth it for us.
Look at my thread, Tony. I described all the hassles at our table.....

In a nutshell, we started with a 8 top but only had three other people who were supposed to be with a large party. Second night we got tow new couples. Third night one of the couples was not there but we got two people who were in anytime seating. Fourth night the missing couple was there again (they overslept and missed dinner!) plus the new couple from anytime- but they were late.
Final night we were all there at 6 PM.
Challenging but we got our table for eight!
