What's going on with that COUP In Honduras?

For the past couple of weeks I've been out of town and only seen quick news messages. Seems there was a Coup in Honduras and the military have taken over. Wonder what this means for cruise ships with port stops in Roatan?

Does anyone know anything at all about this?

Yes, The last I heard on the news the ousted president is expected to return. The reason was that the coup was illegal. I honestly don't know about the efeect on the port.

Thanks, Sue .... You are right ... just not much info on this situation in Honduras anywhere.

Things is ... there WAS for sure a military coup legal or not ...so how safe is it to be there now?

Since I'm fond of going to Roatan, I do sort of keep up with which ships make stops there. I think Carnival has two ships with scheduled ports stops there in July and August.

My DB and his church group are on a mission there right NOW. They left last Friday. I have heard from the church that they are ok, but don't know if they will get home on their scheduled flights which are supposed to leave this Saturday. I'm trying not to worry.

I would not want to port there until the dust has settled, doubt cruiselines will either.

Ok - Don't takae this as gospel, but I believe the action is all on the mainland. Roatan is one of the Bay Islands... and they are a world apart from the rest of Honduras.. even before all this started, I always hears that it was safer on Roatan than on the mainland . . .

DB got into Atlanta about 7pm. Got a quick phone call from him, they are all well. He did say they had to go through 4 military checkpoints yesterday on their way back from the interior. He also said they did see some demonstrations. I may have more first hand info tomorrow.
