Sadly, Dean really did what Category 5 Hurricanes do earlier this week, and he did it at Costa Maya. The port there is basically gone. At least for now. Current estimates say it could take 6-8 months to rebuild.

That means all ships scheduled to call at Costa Maya for the next few months will need to either substitute an extra day at sea, or find al alternate port.

Roatan has a pier to accomodate one ship at least as large as RCL's Voyager class. Maybe at least one more could tender? I've heard of ships 'switching out' at the dock, too.

Looks like there is PLENTY of dock space available, at least for the short term . . . Here are the ships currently listed as being slated to call there for the rest of 2007-

SEPTEMBER:
Two Wedmesdays, (Valor)

OCTOBER:
Two Mondays (NCL Sun); Three Wednesdays (Valor)

NOVEMBER:
Three Mondays (Sun only); One Monday (Sun and Seabourn Legend); Two Wednesdays (Valor); One Thursday (Seven Seas Navigator)

DECEMBER:
Two Sundays (Ocean Village); Four Mondays (Sun); One Wednesday (Valor); Two Thursdays (one- Valor, and one- Seven Seas Navigator); One Friday (Seabourn Legend)

So
Roatan surely could accomodate some of those ships that will need to take Costa Maya off their itineraries for a while.

Let's hope they see some more tourist dollars there! They certainly can use it.

The Norwegian Spirit begins regular sailings from New Orleans next month, with weekly calls at Roatan.
