    Roatan, Honduras

Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras, is one of the best-kept secrets in the Western Caribbean. Beautiful, lush, largely unspoiled, and surrounded by incredible clear turquoise waters offering sensational snorkeling and diving.

If you are lucky enough to be booked on a cruise that calls at Roatan, you are in for a treat!

While there, if you'd like to make a cruise memory that will outlast those of any marvelous meals or beautiful beaches, please consider a visit to the CCCO orphanage at Sandy Bay. Cruisers who have visited there have unanamously agreed that it was the highlight of their trip.

If you go, please consider leaving part of yourself there, in the form of some much needed supplies. A few simple everyday items that we take for granted can mean a lot to these kids. For a list of things that are needed, wee the website, or send me a private message.

If you are leaving from the a port in Florida or Texas, we have volunteers at those ports who would love to meet you prior to your cruise to give you an extra bag of supplies contributed by members of CLF to take along. You'll be SO glad you did!

Here's a link to the CCCO Roatan website, where you'll find pictures of the facilities, the kids, and even some of cruisers delivering supplies.

Right now (June, 2005) We have quite a collection of supplies waiting near Miami to go out on with cruisers on the Carnival Valor, and also some in Houston for cruisers leving on the NCL Sea.

If you can take some of these supplies to the orphanage at Roatan for us, please post here, and we will arrange to get a bag (or bags) of supplies to you.

    Thanks!

Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

Are you all aware there is a real estate boom going on on Roatan? A friend of mine just bought a piece of property, about a third of an acre, for $100K US!

Hawaii 2012, Grand Princess 2011, etc.

    Could really use some help

If anyone is heading for Roatan, we could sure use your help for a little school and orphanage there...

We try to keep a supply line running between US ports and the orphanage for daily needs, socks, underwear, school supplies, hygene items, vitamins, disposable diapers, etc...

Lately, we've had fewer volunteers than normal. So supplies are buiding up here, and not getting to Roatan.

If you are cruising to Roatan from the Port of Houston or Miami, and would llike to visit the orphanage, one of our volunteers would gladly meet you near your port with a bag or two packed with much needed supplies, and ready to check . (Unlocked so you can inspect it, of course) We'll include a complete inventory list for customs purposes.

We can even arrange for a driver to meet you at the Pier in Roatan, and, if you like, take you to the orphanage so you can make the delivery in person and tour the facilitiy. The driver will then be yours for the rest of your day on the beautiful island of Roatan.

If you are interested in helping, or are going to Roatan, and have questions about the orphanage, please drop us a note at: caringsruisers@cccoroatan.org or visit the website at Home

I would like to add to Sheila's post!! Supplies cannot be mailed to Roatan!! That is what blew me away!! If you mail it, it doesn't get there!! Period!! Even email is somewhat iffy!! These children are orphans, unwanted children, street children, an 8 year old girl with Downs syndrome, who lived in a chicken coop cause no one knows what do do with her!! She is not potty trained, and takes a larger size diaper, that is NOT a pull up, and THEY DO NOT HAVE THEM ON THE ISLAND TO BUY!! We are mot even asking anyone to buy supplies, we have them, but need someone to offer to take them to the port. There is a van from the orphanage that will pick it up at the dock, and you don't have to go there. You can enjoy all the island has to offer!! My point here is, these are children that have no one but the people that willingly take them in to care and love them!! And help from us, who they don't even know!! PLEASE, if you know anyone going on a ship that stops there, would you ask if they would be interested in helping!! Ask them to email you and give them the link to this site!! The children will be VERY grateful!! Thanks!!
