Hello all, I am going to Roatan on 23 November on a cruise. We have just begun to get supplies for the children, so it's not much. We have school supplies and art supplies to give to each child, but I am trying to find out the location, actual name and the ages, gender and number of children in the orpanage. this is the only one i found Majken Broby Children's Home, Roatan, Honduras. Is this close to the pier? Will the children think we are crazy for only taking 1 small bag for each of them?? I have seen and heard about what others are doing and I really don't have enough time to start (I leave next week). Can you guys give me directions and any suggestions of what to put in their bags? how about the house mothers, what should I give to them and how many mothers are there? Thanks, I hope to hear from someone soon!!!!

Durand, I do not know anyone who has been to that orphanage, but NOTHING on Roatan is far from the pier. I believe it is not far from Coxen Hole, where the pier is. As for what you bring, I think that the children and their staff will care more that you took time to visit them, than about how much you bring them.

The best way to get info about what they need, and how to get there would be to get in touch with Lynn, who manages the Roatan Childrens Home | Majken Broby Childrens Home, Roatan Orphanage website.

On the needs page, Roatan Children's Home | Orphanage on Roatan, it says:"If you would like to visit the Children's Home
please call Lynn at (925) 932-8625
    or email her at lynn@RoatanChildrensHome.com"

Lynn keeps in close contact with the staff and can give you the most up to date info. She can tell you what the staff would like, what the children need, and maybe more important, what the children do not need.

I am so glad you are doing this. The other orphanage on the island is not taking visitors while they reorganize, so this is really the only option for the time being.

I just ask one favor: when you return, could you post on CruiseLineFans what your visit was like? We have a lot of people interested in helping, and we don't know what to tell them about what to expect.

Well I have planned for ferry schedule to Roatan and i need to know the ferry schedule from LA CEIBA to Roatan and the round trip price, I am planning on visiting this Easter 2008.I think it's a lovely island and the people we met were very nice. It is growing and changing though.Hopefully it will manage to retain it's charm while allowing it's citizens to benefit from this growth.
