Oh darn, she isn't on line. I think she is working right now. She will check back in at least by tonite, so...... In the meantime, read all of our threads if you can.
By the way, welcome aboard.

We used the driver from the orpanage!! As far as the ship goes, everyone has done it different ways!! When we went on the Valor, we had 42 boxes. We put them in a bin at the drop off, with a porter to help us, it went into the hold of the ship, not the cabin, On Monday we went to the pursers office with the inventory, and on the day in port, went to the pursers desk and waited till the crew brought the boxes out to the pier, then we went down. Once on the pier, we waited for the driver to come, and worked with customs to do this!! It is a wait, and you will be in a third world county so patience is good!! Not a real long wait, but not an immediate transfer!!

Wow! 42 boxes! Wow! Great job, I'm sure they appreciated all of that!
And thank you guys for your quick responses today. I've spent all morning (at work...shhhhh) reading pages and pages of your stuff...there is so much! Good thing I have a while to get through it!
I have a couple questions if anyone can answer them:
1.) We have already reserved a driver for the day who will take us anywhere we want to go, as well as the stop at the orphanage. From what I understand there are two on Roatan?? I just want to confirm so I make sure I'm taking supplies to the right place! Yes, there ARE two. The one we work with is the CCCO orphanage at Sandy Bay, run by Brad and Debbie Warren. They do a great deal of outreach to children in the community.
2.) I see people are taking food items as donations. I assume that is fine and not a problem as long as everything is prepackaged?
Only once have I (personally) had a food item denied by customs. That was a large (33 servings) can of Tuna fish. When time gets closer, we can help you with tips on making your list for customs...
3.) How do we get all that stuff off the ship!? Do we need to wait longer to clear customs with all of those bags and boxes? What if we only have enough bags that we can carry and don't need the room steward to help us off?
What we usually do is request from the purser (and also from our cabin attendent) for some help on that morning. There is usually a cruw member eager to earn some tip money in exchange for getting it off the ship for us. But we tend to take a much larger amount than we would expect anyone else to... If you just have a couple of backpacks or duffels, you should be able to just carry them off yourselves, however.
Sorry...I'm full of a million questions! I am a former daycare employee and a current teacher, and this is like one of my dreams. I can't believe I'm going to get the opportunity to do this! No problem! That's why we're here. I'm glad you're going to get to go, too! It's something you won't soon forget.
Thanks for your reply Canarymoon! You truly are doing a great thing...along with many other kind souls. Keep up the good work!
I think the orphanage we are most interested in going to is the Children's Home. I read that CCCO helps them out the best that they can. I know there is need at both, but from what I understand the need is greater at the Children's Home. Does anyone have experience taking supplies there or can you point me in the direction of someone who might know more about that specific orphanage?
It is formally known as the Majken Broby Children's home. Majken Broby was a missionary with the Congregation Christian Churches in Honduras, and she started a mission in San Pedro de Sula. I am not sure how this orphanage came to be run by the Association of Baptist Churches, but that is what it is today.
I don't have any other info about the home or about how to arrange a visit, but there is an e-mail address on the site where you can get more info. Let us know what you find out!!

Thank you. I found their site last night, but can't seem to find anyone who has visitied here who is willing to talk about it! I read reviews from cruisers who have stopped here but they don't offer much info and I can't find their email addresses to email them.
I'm glad I've started looking 8 months ahead of time! It gives me time to find all of the answers which I seek. I plan to begin contact with the Children's Home shortly and I'll let you guys know if I find out anything. My offer still stands though: Granted we have space, I wouldn't mind making a delivery to CCCO as well
