Nevermind! I found a link that worked to a needs list.
But can someone still tell me about the orphanage? At this point, I really know nothing. I saw that you can stop there and take supplies and decided that we would do that. That's about it! I want to help, but I really don't know what to expect at all. Any info would be appreciated.
LOL!
I see that Sue and I were posting at about the same time.
The thread we both gave you a link to is probably the best place to get feedback from those who have visited. There's quite a bit of chit chat there, but a lot of information, too. be sure to read the very first post in the thread!
Please don't hesitate to ask specific questions - and we'll do our best to answer!
BTW - regarding supplies: I talked to Brad Warren (CCCO's director) a few days ago. They are quite low on shampoo and deodorant right now. (When you see how hot and humid it is in Roatan, you'll understand how quickly they can run through these items!)
Thank you so much guys! I will spend today at work reading through all of this! I still have 8 months until we sail, but I want to get started collecting some supplies! I will post again when we have more specific questions
I've been three times, and wish I could go back again tomorrow! Those kids will really steal your heart - and uplift it, too!
One of our members (MCCruiser) is also going there in the spring... maybe you'll be on the same ship? She will be on the March 9 sailing of the Voyager of the Seas, out of Galveston.

Nope...We'll be going on the Valor, sailing on March 30. Darn...I sure would like to meet some of the great people that are doing this for the kids! Ever since I started reading about this, I can't stop! My husband and I (while still newlyweds and still young) have always considered adoption and we are looking forward to our first trip to an orphanage. And best of all, we are looking forward to taking much needed supplies! Depending on how much we collect from our friends and families, we may be able to take some stuff off of your hands. My two sister-in-laws are adopted from Russia and are so excited that we are getting this opportunity. I just can't stop smiling and being excited! And it's still 8 months away!
Good morning!
Carm....how wonderful for the kids that you are going to go. We just got back in May and I can't begin to tell you how taken we were with the kids. It was an unbelievable experience.

I am so glad everyone has such positive experiences.
I have a couple questions if anyone can answer them:
1.) We have already reserved a driver for the day who will take us anywhere we want to go, as well as the stop at the orphanage. From what I understand there are two on Roatan?? I just want to confirm so I make sure I'm taking supplies to the right place!
2.) I see people are taking food items as donations. I assume that is fine and not a problem as long as everything is prepackaged?
3.) How do we get all that stuff off the ship!? Do we need to wait longer to clear customs with all of those bags and boxes? What if we only have enough bags that we can carry and don't need the room steward to help us off?
Sorry...I'm full of a million questions! I am a former daycare employee and a current teacher, and this is like one of my dreams. I can't believe I'm going to get the opportunity to do this!
