    Dress Code Changes

Regent Seven Seas has modified their dress codes and policies in favor of a less stringent policy. This was done as a result of guest feedback and shall be put into place for the 2009/2010 New Year's Eve cruises.

Daytime Dress Code (until 6 p.m.) During the day, resort style clothing (including shorts, warm-up suits, jeans and sneakers) is acceptable in all public areas. Bare feet are acceptable only on the Pool Deck.

Evening Dress Code (after 6 p.m.) Two types of dress code have been established for evenings in public areas: Elegant Casual and Formal Optional. The number of Formal Optional nights per cruise is dependent upon the length of the cruise, as follows:
    • Cruises of fifteen nights or less will be Elegant Casual for the duration
    • Cruises of sixteen nights or more will have two Formal Optional nights

Elegant Casual: Skirt, or slacks (no jeans) with blouse or sweater, pant suit or dress for ladies; slacks (no jeans) and collared shirt for gentlemen. Sport jackets are optional. Note: Jeans, T-shirts, baseball caps, shorts, sneakers and bathrobes are not considered appropriate in any public area after 6 p.m.

Formal Optional: While guests are welcome to dress each evening as per the Elegant Casual dress code, during Formal Optional evenings, guests may opt for a more formal choice of clothing including gowns and cocktail dresses for ladies; tuxedos, dinner jackets or dark suit with tie for gentlemen.

What do you think about these changes? While Regent Seven Seas still has maintained a sense of decorum and tradition, this does seem to alter things slightly. Are you in favor of the loosening of dress codes on cruise lines like Regent Seven Seas? Let us know your thoughts.

I'm not familiar with the former dress code, but I'm sure Texashorselady will be chiming in when she sees this thread. Julie is a big fan of Regent.

I always like formal nights. But, witht he more stringent suitcase codes and restrictions with most airlines, it makes it more difficult to justify the tuxedo.

Most of their cruises can be port-intensive - not many days at seas. When you only have 2 days out of 10 at sea, it makes getting dressed up more of chore, so I think they did the right thing. When you are on a longer cruise, it's nice to have a change of pace. Since Regent already has 3-4 restaurants per ship, adding a couple of formal nights makes sense.

What I don't see is why say "formal optional" surely this will end up a confusing? My personal view is I just wear what the cruiseline/Host ask me to, don't really mind. I like the formals but wouldn't miss all the fuss but I do think that some sort of standard of dress is right for dinner/evening "Elegant Casual" like a nice hotel ?

I have not sailed Regent, but I wouldn't mind it if some other cruise lines adopted this policy. Don't shoot me...

As I say it doesn't bother me realy,l go with the flow. I noticed somewhere that Cunard Elegant Casual merely allows the not wearing of a tie!!

I've not cruised this line. Are those guidelines saying I can be in shorts or whatever until 6 p.m., then get a little fancied up in order to be in public after 6? Or is this for dining attire?
