Anybody ever done Regent with kids

Hey, to all the Regent lovers.

After reading all glowing reviews of Regent from Texas Horse Lady and word of mouth from others, I wanted to see if Regent was a possibility for me and my family. Kids are 8 & 10 right now, but we are booked through 07, so 08 is probably what we are looking at for our next new booking.

I had a few questions and was able to find answers online:

    1. Does Regent have rooms that can accomodate 4.

I found this is a "yes", but I'm not sure if it is all or some of the rooms.

    2. Does Regent have any kind of kids program.

This is also a yes, but only on select sailings, and I found that the select sailings are during the times I would be likely to cruise with the kids..Thanksgiving, Christmas, Summer, ect.

    3. Does Regent have special pricing for kids

Again, I was suprised to find that kids even sail free on some sailings as the 3rd and 4th person in the cabin, and that these are actually times when we would sail..Thanksgiving and Christmas.

So......For those of you who have sailed Regent... can you fill in the gaps for me.

Do the Standard rooms accomodate 4, or must we book a high end room to accomodate 4?

Are there many kids on board?? I personally think that 25-75 kids is about the right number. Anyfewer and the kids are board and any more an the kids are overwhelmed or out of control.

Is Club Mariner well run and fun, or just an afterthought to keep the kids away from adults.
We really like to play games and do activities with our kids, so as long as we can do things as a family, then even a lesser kids club is fin.

How are other passengers towards kids. My kids were well behaved on our Celebrity cruise, and so many passengers were friendly and complementry towards them. Will they be equally welcome on Regent?

I've looked into Crystal as a family cruise, but had to rule them out because they don't have rooms for 4 and 4 full price tickets is cost prohibative.

If you go to rssc.com you can find great interactive links to look at each cabin on each separate...with lots of details and photos. I think Radisson (Regent) has one of the best websites, as far as researching and finding quick answers. I remember we looked into another cruiseline...can't remember which...a while back and you couldn't get detailed info about the cabins without talking to a representative. That was strange.

Regarding kids onboard, I would say Radisson would definitely welcome them with open arms. It's not a stuffy atmosphere, not a grey poupon or white gloves type of cruise. But it's definitely not Disney, either. Knowing Radisson, I promise Club Mariner will be top notch, and very attentive...probably exceptionally imaginative and fun. But there probably won't be many kids on board. Mainly, to be totally honest, because this cruise costs more and most people bringing kids with them opt for lower price cruises. People onboard will no doubt give them extra special attention...because it won't be a ship full of kids and they will be special.

If your kids enjoy the whole cruise experience they really will enjoy it...a lot. But if they need arcades, skating rinks, rock walls, full size shopping malls onboard, etc to have fun...then they might find Radisson boring.

The cabins on Radisson are huge, beautiful, and really well laid out with tons of cabinets, nooks and storage space. I think you won't need to upgrade to a suite or anything...unless you want to. We had a suite on our last trip and it was sure nice. Way more room than two people needed, and the bathroom was as big (and nice) as any you'd see in most houses. But I think if you get a room that sleeps 4 you'll be just fine.

Here's a photo of a little girl that was on the Paul Gauguin with us in Tahiti. Every time we saw her she shared what she did that day, and what she bought for souveniers. She had bought that paraeo (Tahitian scarf) and was giving us all a fashion show on ways to wear it. But I think she was maybe the only kid on that particular tender, if that gives you an idea of the ratio. BUT we are talking about a very small ship...and some of the excursions and outings had groups as small as ten or twelve people. Another reason Radisson is just wonderful...no cattle car lines and lots of personal attention...for grown ups AND kids!

    thanks for the response

Thanks for the response, you answered a lot of my pending questions.

Regent does have an excellent website. I enjoyed taking some of the ship tours online and the rooms are huge compared to the 172 sqft we had with the kids on the Infinity.

My kids and I were having a "cruise" discussion on the way home from dance class yesterday and I asked them what they enjoyed most about the Infinity cruise.

The first thing was the Kids Club, but second was what you described as the cruise experience. DS said he liked meeting interesting people, and the dining room, and the production shows. DD said she liked the wonderful waiters, meeting people, the dining room and dancing.

We had talked a while ago about going on Holland America, and I had mentioned that they tended to generally have fewer kids in the kids club and more older people. They said "Maybe in a few years when we are like 10 and 12 we can do a Holland America cruise because we'll be older." Too funny.

I mentioned that we might have to give Regent a try then too.. They thought that was a good idea too.

Then DD asked which ships have the ice rinks, rock climbing walls, and water parks. I told her those are the really big Royal Carribean ships, but I said if we want Ice Rinks, Rock Climbing Walls and Water parks, it would be a lot less expensive just to spend a week in Tucson or Phoenix and do all those things. A cruise is a chance to get away from all that stuff and just relax.

I still couldn't figure our how regent does the 4 in a a room. I'm guessing the sofa folds out into a double bed? And maybe some rooms have a either roll aways or bunks in the ceiling.
The web site only shows rooms that can accomodate 3, but I'm guessing some of those rooms will also accomodate 4. The rooms are plenty big enough for 4.
