Fort Lauderdale's Regent Cruise Line reported sold for $1 billion

Fort Lauderdale-based Regent Seven Seas Cruises may have been the subject of a quiet takeover battle, according to at least one published report.

Spokesmen for Regent and its Minneapolis-based parent company declined comment on a posting at CFO.com that said Regent has been sold for $1 billion to Apollo Management LP.

Holy Cow!

Regent Seven Seas Cruises owns the luxury liners Seven Seas Voyager, Seven Seas Mariner, Seven Seas Navigator, the Paul Gauguin, and the Explorer II.

These are high end ships! The Explorer II is specially designed for sailing in icy seas, and does voyages to Antarctica.

Wonder if this will mean an expansion for Regent?
It did for Oceania when Apollo invested there.
Excerpt from the article Ken cited:
Apollo has been an active investor in the cruise industry. . . . It also owns a majority stake in Oceania Cruises, a three-ship firm based in Miami with a market profile similar to that of Regent.
A month after Apollo made its investment in Oceania, the cruise line announced an agreement to build two new 1,260-passenger ships for delivery in 2010 and 2011.

Wow, I thought you knew that Sheila. They even own high end Hotels, Resorts & Residenses. There is one, The Regent Bal Harbour, on Collins Ave(A1A) in Miami.

Fort Lauderdale-based luxury cruise line sold

It's Final.

Regent Seven Seas Cruises
is changing hands and the new owner, Apollo Management LP could finance more ships for the Fort Lauderdale-based luxury line.

The two companies announced a long-rumored deal on Monday for Apollo to acquire Regent from family-run Carlson Cos., of Minneapolis. The terms of the deal weren't disclosed, but financial Web site CFO.com, which broke news of the deal in November, put the price at $1 billion.
