Viking Lounge, Cloud Nine, Dizzy's, etc.

This may sound silly, but are these areas for Platinum, Diamond and other repeat users of RC? Exactly what is a lounge? and how can this one area have so many different areas in it? If a bunch of us adults want to go dancing a couple nights, is this the area where we would go? Are there different types of music in different lounges? Are they non-smoking areas?

Obviously, I am somewhat confused. I am guessing it will make sense when I see it but I want to make sure I can get my husband dancing with me somewhere on this ship - besides our cabin.

    Doesn't sound silly at all.

No, they are not exclusively for Crown & Anchor members. Sometimes one of the lounge areas in Viking Crown will be used as an overflow Concierge Lounge for Diamond plus members. This is during the happy hour from about 5 to 8:30PM.

Yes, these are places where you can go dancing in the evening. They are used for multple purposes during the day. They all have bars.

Here is the smoking policy direct from the Royal Caribbean web site:

Q: What is the Smoking Policy onboard?
A: Effective January 2008, smoking is only permitted in designated areas and outdoors on the Starboard side of the ship (contact the Guest Services for details). Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, hallway or corridor. Smoking is not permitted inside any stateroom or on Oasis class Boardwalk or Central Park private balconies, however, it is permitted on private ocean view balconies of balcony/suite staterooms. A $250 penalty will be applied to the SeaPass for guests found smoking in staterooms or on the private balconies in Boardwalk and Central Park onboard Oasis class ships. Pipe & cigar smoking is only permitted within the Cigar lounge. If no Cigar lounge exists on the ship, there will be a designated area for pipe & cigar smoking, you will find out the location once onboard. Cigarettes, cigars and pipe tobacco must be properly disposed of and never thrown overboard. A guest must be at least 18 years of age to purchase, possess or use tobacco onboard.

The new policy will go into effect aboard 18 of 21 ships initially, with Legend of the Seas, Rhapsody of the Seas and Splendour of the Seas following suit with the 2008 summer season.

[designated areas and outdoors on the Starboard side of the ship]

so it is possible that many of the lounges will allow smoking - especially if they are on the starboard side of the ship.

Dizzy's turned out to be one of my favorite spots on the ship... loved it! Fantastic $1.00 off martinis every day at 5:30 pm - great way to relax before dinner while hanging out with a friend. Delicious appletinis! It was very quiet, too, as most people were getting ready for early seating or hanging by the pool.

Most of the lounges have only a very small area where smoking is allowed if at all. Some lounges do not have smoking areas at all. It does vary a little from ship to ship so the details are a little hard to pin down.

There are usually 2 or 3 places for dancing in the evening. With different types of music.

Maybe a photo could help you see how there are so many lounges in one small lounge area. In the Viking Crown Lounge on RCL's Voyager class there is one large room with windows all around, overlooking the pool deck below and the ocean on both sides of the ship. There is lots of seating around all of the windows and throughout the room. There are one or two bars in this area as well, and a small stage with seating around it as well. Off to one side are a couple of rooms with windows of their own. These are usually the card and board game rooms, one of several "quiet" places onboard available to you. The other side has the 19th hole, which is a golf themed sports bar. So there are lots of lounges, all individual in their own way, but also combined, take up this smaller deck onboard.

As for smoking, I do not recall if smoking was allowed in the Viking lounge are or 19th hole area.

The Viking crown lounge is one of our favorite areas onboard. It's got a great atmosphere and a great view.

Sitting at the windows looking back towards the lounge, you can see the bar to the side and the seating around the stage.

You are allowed to smoke in the Viking Lounge on the starboard side as well as the Schnoor (sp) lounge in the front of it. Also the casino on most nights, they do have a non-smoking night occasionally.

Music in the Viking lounge was aimed for a much younger crowd after 10, alot of hip hop music.

Thanks Pat, for the insider scoop.

Maybe it depends on which cruise you were on. The Mariner had some hip-hop stuff happening but during our Adventure cruise it was all light jazz with just a pianist and a beautiful lady behind a microphone. She took requests and performed really well.
