Radiance South America 2009-2010 Season cancelled

RCI has cancelled the South America 2009 - 2010 season onboard the Radiance of the Seas.
Instead the ship will be doing 4 and 5 days cruises out of San Diego to Mexico.

Now, rumors has it that RCI has pulled the 4 and 5 days cruises also, but they are still available for booking online.

The South America cruises onboard the Radiance for the 08-09 season has been heavy discounted in Europe. 2 weeks for less then € 300,- !!!!
I presume the economy has a big role in this. It would be easier to fill up a ship sailing from California on short cruises then South America which would include expensive air fares.

Its a shame, I had my eyes set on South America for 2010

Lars, I think the cruise industry is beginning to feel the effects of the economy. I tell people that yes, a cruise is expensive, but it's the best vacation value for every dollar they spend, and I tell then why. I also tell then, that it's also important that they watch their spending on board. I know that's no fun. On board spending is down on cruise ships, and with the number of new vessels coming online this year, I see prices dropping to try and fill those berths.

I so agree with you. I think we are going to see some really big reductions in prices on the next few months.
For us who can travel, as long as it does not involve a long and expensive flight, its "good news"...as long as the ships stay over here in Europe and dont get deployed elsewhere.
We have 2 cruises booked for next year and I dont plan to cancel them.
We have to be watching what we spend omboard as the $$ to the Euros is really bad now, for us at least.
Paying the amount RC charge for wine and drinks would be more then I pay in gourmet restaurants here with todays exchange rate.

I am not surprised by the news. For most people the flight to SA would cost more than the cruise. I think they will have a better chance of filling the ship closer to the US. I will definatly look into taking a trip our of SD.
