Hawaii Sept, 2008, Radiance of the seas

Thinking of taking Radiance of the Seas 15 days Hawaii in September, 2008. Flying from Vancouver, BC to San Diego. Should I arrive one day early, or just take my chances with an early morning flight out of Vancouver. What do you think?

Hello May!

It is my recommendation that every cruiser should fly in the day before the cruise for several reasons. Weather, mechanical problems, airport delays can disrupt the flow of travel and make you late arriving.

Also, it is good to arrive at the ship rested from your travels and ready to enjoy the shipboard experience. We always fly in the day before to get our body clocks adjusted to the new time zone as well.

May, I must agree with Char. Fly in the day before please. You just never know what might be happening the day of the cruise and you would be mightily mad if you missed your ship.

May, last September when we were on the Radiance OTS it sailed out of Los Angeles (San Pedro) so I can't help you with hotels in San Diego. It has been several years since we overnighted in San Diego and my recommendations wouldn't be current.

You might try Embassy Suites and or Holiday Inn. I believe they are both near the port.

I agree with Hanna on the choices. Our preferance is Embassy Suites. You are about 1/2 block from Seaport Village (lots of shops and restaurants), have a beautiful view of the harbor. Embassy Suites includes all you can eat breakfast. The main reason we like the hotel is the separate bedroom. I have insomnia so this way I have a separate area to read, watch tv etc if I can't sleep. Hotel is nice and we have stayed at many Embassy Suites over the years.

Here's the links to the 2 hotels:
