Janice, yep it is. I'm so looking forward to some exercise. I think since I got grounded I gained about 7 lbs. Just sat around and ate

    BTW, how is Gwen?

Gwen is doing fine with her radiation treatments. Thanks for thinking of her.

    Hi all,

I'm here asking my wonderful support group for some help. Just got some really bad news from my best friend that she has stage IV metastatic lung cancer and 17 brain lesions. She had gamma knife treatment for her lesions on Wed. She is waiting for results to determine the best chemo treatment for her. I'm still in shock. Please send your thoughts and good vibes that she will beat this.

OMG, how awful Janice. What is her name please? Prayers do work.

An update on my bil. He too had stage 4. And he is doing really well at this point. He may not even have radiation and for sure no chemo.

Thank you, Hanna, her name is Barbara. So glad for the good news with your BIL. Barb is lucky that she works at a biotech company. Her boss has been helping her with finding the best care for her. That's how she found out about the gamma knife treatment for her brain lesions. If she was to just wait for her doctor and our lousy health care treatment, she wouldn't have even begun to receive any type of treatments for another 3 weeks. Her boss also referred her to an oncologist in Long Beach for some new type of chemo treatment. They test a sample of the tumor to help predict which chemo drugs may best kill the cancer cells. She might able to just take a new drug, Tarceva, which would replace chemotherapy. The pill is taken daily. I'm that the new drug will be best suited for her. I'm glad her daughter had moved back from NYC to be with. So has her ex but I'm not if that's a good thing.

    Friends
Saw "bridesmaids" on Bluray and it is hilarious-highly recommend. I like "Bad Teacher" but Gena did not.

    Janice

Best wishes for your friend. Chemo, radiation,gamma-necessary, but rough.
Good that retinal specialist gave you all clear and hopefully, your floaters will disappear soon.

    Hanna
Glad that your cardiac exam went well and you will lose 7 pounds easily, I predict.

    Martha

Last week, I saw my endo and he says that the modern protocol is as follows. Hb1ac 6.9 or below, diet and exercise only-no medications
7.0 or above, Metformin to bring down to 6.5 to 6.9.
6.5-6.9 is the standard goal for diabetics. Any lower causes other problems.
If you start lower like 6.4 you are fine but don't go below 6.5 with medication.
However, continue treatment for high LDL or hypertension.

Kumar, so good to see you here. You are well it seems?

I too enjoyed Bridesmaids, laughed out loud a lot.

    Hi all!

Hanna- Glad you are healthy and rarin' to go!

Janice- I am so sorry to hear about Barb. I am delighted that her boss is helping her; she is lucky! So many times patients get the news and are so in shock they cannot act. It is good her boss is there to guide her and her daughter to give her support. Hanna is right; prayers do work and I will pray for her

Kumar- My A1C is 6.4; up from 6.2. I switched from simvastatin to pravastatin to see if that would help my blood sugars. I really don't want to start the metformin!

I will have to remember to watch Bridesmaids.

A belated Happy Birthday to Neal.

Made final payment on our Hawaii cruise. I still can't believe we are going! Lee has already started putting his clothes in our "travel" room. I noticed our suitcases are out of the attic, too, but he might not have put them back from our Fla. trip. Our trip isn't until April!!

Judy- how are things going with you?? How is your mother doing?

I've had the last 5 days off; have to go back to work tomorrow from 7a-7p. It was really nice. We max out our personal time off at 320 hrs and cannot accumulate more until we use some. I will max out my time so had to use some. By taking 12 hrs off, I got 5 days. I am doing the same thing in March. That way I won't max out before Hawaii.
