Thread: August 6, 2010 - Alaska Southbound

Hello. I'm planning a group cruise on Radiance - Southbound in Alaska - leaving August 6, 2010. The group is to celebrate my parent's 50th anniversary. We are inviting lots of family and friends. Everyone's friends. They won't have to know or have met my parents to join us.

So who is going on this cruise? Let us know.

Okay - my cabin is booked. My parent's cabin is booked. Now we just need the rest of the group to book their cabins. I got a hump cabin on deck 8.

We booked 5 cabins. Airfare is now booked. I booked a private whale watching tour for me and my brothers and sisters out of Icy Strait Point (with F.I.S.H.E.S.). I would love to book a flightseeing tour out of Ketchikan but it is really expensive. I found a 2 for 1 coupon in the discount tour book for Alaska (toursaver.com) but apparently that particular company only has the ship tours left so the discount won't do me any good. Haven't found any other real deals.

We are down to 3 cabins - 2 on the hump. Spending a few days in Anchorage before with a person guide. An old friend of my brother's lives there and is taking time off work to pick us up at the airport and take us around while we are there.

I booked a flightseeing tour with Island Wings in Ketchikan. Not cheap but I hear the Misty Fjord trip is a must see. Doing FISHES in Icy Strait Point for whale watching. Taking the White Pass & Yukon Railroad in Skagway with a side trip to the Suspension bridge and a mining camp. No excursions in Juneau but we plan to take a bus to Mendenhall Glacier.

We have several days in Vancouver at the end of the trip. We will find that tour bus that gets lets you on or off the bus all over town. Great way to get around. Definitely plan on spending some time on Granville Island and probably some time in Stanley Park too.

I'm looking for tips and suggestions.
