Stephen ... Any idea what this relates to from the review ? would like to know in advance .
There is also a lot of stuff with cost implications that they don’t tell you about until it’s too late for you to plan for it. Certainly some things that we had to pay for we didn’t hear about until we were actually on board the ship.
I am not 100% sure what that relates to, but here is a list of the things I can think of that are extra:
Drinks in the bars, including soft drinks and tea/coffee. Fruit jucie, tea coffe and ice cream are available in the lido for free. Food and drink at afternoon tea is free.
Some activities have a charge, this will be mentioned in the daily programme which you will get in your cabin before bed. Examples are art classes, or gym classes. All of the main activities are free.
They will try to sell you bottled water at dinner on the first evening, but if you don't want ot pay, just ask for tap water. You should only have to do this once.
The big one to watch out for is the 15% service charge and the auto tipping system. There will be price lists on the tables in the bars, but remember the prices are in US $ not UK £.
You can buy on board credit by ringing Cunard before you travel, this can get you a better exchange rate.
I guess they are not too unlike many other lines who charge for similar items such as the drinks etc, we are not big wine drinkers and so tend to drink Tap water at Dinner.
The Biggest thing i noticed in the review was the ridiculous charge for trips! ... that said we did all our own on the 4 cruises we have been on so far including Rome and Pisa.
We got a great OBC as part of the booking but at the trip prices it would soon put a great hole in it, i am guessing that there are many First time cruisers who get quite a shock when they find out about extra associated costs of their cruise.
Last year we only found out a week before we sailed that we would have to pay to get out of the port at Livorno because you are not allowed to walk ! despite as the crow flies the distance being about half a mile.
Sounded like a great review to me.

It was a good review for newbies, who don't know the ins and outs of cruising, but I found nohing surprising in what they charge for extras. Now if new cruisers would do a little checking on sites like this and google, there would be no surprises. I think Cunard really does it best and we are excitedly looking forward to our next QM2 cruise in June!![]()
