I am aboard the QM2 right now for a back2back transatlantic crossing

Yesterday on June 19th, I boarded the QM2 in New York for a back2back transatlantic crossing.I am enjoying myself and the QM2 is great as always. The captain aboard for these 2 back2back crossings is Captain Nick Bates and he does have a colorful way of speaking to the passengers over the public address system and tonight us passengers in the Britannia class staterooms do get a chance to meet him at a cocktail party. This morning Maritime Author Bill Miller gave a lecture in Illuminations about the history of the Great Atlantic Liners talking of course about the Cunard Queens,S.S.United States,Italian Line,French Line,German Line and the White Star Line and of course the Titanic always does get mentioned in these lectures.Bill Miller will continue his lecture tomorrow which of course I will attend again.I will write more tomorrow. Regards,Jerry

Hi Jerry I am so jealous I would love to hear those lectures of all the beautiful true ocean liners. Will look forward to your posts, Thanks for taking the time
Some people try to turn back their odometers. Not me! I want people to know why I look this way. I've traveled a long way, and some of the roads weren't paved.

    Bon Voyage... Happy Cruising....

    Dear Cruise Liner Fan,
    Bon Voyage.. Happy Cruising....

Take good care of the QM2, we will be boarding on the day of your return.

We will be taking the 4th of July Cruise after you.

I was down by the Brooklyn shore by the VZ when you were coming under the
bridge and heading in the Narrows towards Sandy Hook for open sea.

Hope you enjoy photo of the ship going out last night. Did not know where
you were standing, so I could not take a photo of you.

We too expect to have Capt Nick Bates on our voyage. We had him twice on the
QE2 (once as a Staff Captain & once as a Captain). The last time we had him was
    on the Caronia in 2001.

We also will be having Bill Miller on the cruise we are taking. He does have alot of
    historical information to offer.

Can't wait to track each day of your cruise to see what is instore for us in 12 days.

    Also watching your QM2 Webcam.

    Enjoy!

I just disembarked yesterday and very much enjoyed meeting Captain Bates. Wonderful noontime bridge reports. Short, to-the-point and finished with a marvelous little story.
And yes, "The Lady" did not disappoint.

    Hi Jerry

I hear from some one else on QM2 at the moment that you had a force 8 last night. I hope you enjoyed the rock and roll

Captain Bates is full of stories, do they have his book in the book shop? It's a good read if they do.

He did slip up last time I saild with him on QE2, and told the same story twice in two days. He did apologise the day after.

    Looks Like A Ride......

    Dear Lanky Lad,
I too have been following that other Live report.

I have also been watching the Live Webcam onboard and they
have been not having a clean clear ride up to now.

Hope they will have a better rest of the crossing to go.

Love Those Live Reports, makes you feel you are sort of there!

Lanky Lad, Are you refering to Capnpugwash aka Jim? I met him yesterday at a meeting of the members of another website in the QM2's Commodore Club yesterday afternoon.Yesterday after the meeting the QM2 was rolling from side to side and I was in the pool on 12 Deck and the pool water and the water in the jacuzzi were splashing onto the deck because of the rolling of the ship and at around 4:30 pm the pool on 12 deck and the jacuzzis were closed down because of the splashing of the water onto the deck.Today the seas are a little more calmer and the QM2 is not rolling as bad as yesterday afternoon and evening.Last night because of the rolling of the ship it was a little difficult to dance in the G32 nightclub located aft at the stern of the QM2 on 3 Deck.Just for a gag I did ask the DJ to play this classic 1974 disco hit called Rock the Boat and he did play in .In the lyrics of the song some of the words are "Rock the Boat,Don't tip the boat over" and "Our love is like a ship on the ocean,we've sailing" blank " love and devotion". I wrote that word blank because I can't remember the other words in that song between sailing and love.In todays lecture given by maritime historian Bill Miller he did talk more about the Transatlantic Liners in the 1950s and 1960s leading up the the launch of the QE2 in 1967 and he will continue his lecture on Tuesday.I will post more on Tuesday.Regards,Jerry

Thanks Jerry, yes, it is Jim's live from I have been reading on that other forum, which will remain nameless.

Glad the sea has calmed down a little, but a bit of rock and roll is nice just to remind you that you are on the ocean.

Enjoy the rest of your crossing.
