What Do You Like & Would Not Miss Doing On The QM2.....

    Hi All,
Being new to the board, I hope this topic has not been asked many times.

    Being a avid Cunard - QM2 Fan:

What Do You Like & Would Not Miss Doing On The QM2.....

There are so many activities and things to do onboard and on the Programmes, I wonder
what your very best ideas and things you have done or look forward to do again?

    We like-
    * Lunching in the Golden Loin Pub
    * Eating Alfresco at the Boardwalk Cafe - Deck 12, rear
    * Seeing the evening shows in the Royal Court Theater
    * Play a game or two of chance in the Casino
    * Looking forward to being on top - Observation Deck - Going under the VZ Bridge.
    * Trivia in the Golden Loin Pub
    * Planetarium shows in the Illumination Theater
    * Dancing in the evening to the Ballroom Orchestra - In the Queens Room.
    * Disco'ing in the G32
    * Afternoon Tea Time - Queens Room
    * and there are many more......

    Let's hear yours.........
    Regards To All,

When I board I stand on deck 2 near the Purser's Desk and look up and say "Hi honey, I'm home".
Brownies, usually served in the King's Court on embarkation day.
Afternoon tea in the Queen's Room.
Early morning, just walking around the ship while it's quiet.
Movies in Illuminations. I like the tiered seating.
Arriving at Red Hook and seeing the ship at the pier.
Waiters who remember me and greet me by name.
The last evening aboard, walking around silently saying my goodbyes.

I Like The Asian Section Of Kings Court on Embarkation.

Afternoon tea in the Queen's Room.
We Go To That Within A Day or Two Afterwards

Early morning, just walking around the ship while it's quiet.
That Is My Biggest Thrill Each Morning, Doing Several Laps Between 7AM - 8.

Movies in Illuminations. I like the tiered seating.
    Movies Are Great In Illuminatiions

Arriving at Red Hook and seeing the ship at the pier.
I Get Excited While Traveling On The Gowanus Expressway And See Her Above The Buildings.
Then Her Peeking Thru The Building On The Street. Then Full View Entering The Pier Entrance.

Waiters who remember me and greet me by name.
Seeing Old Friendly Faces Are A Warm Welcome

The last evening aboard, walking around silently saying my goodbyes.

Can't argue with any of that. And it is giving me additional ammo to use on my wife to sail Cunard......

    Dear nealberk,
That is not ammo, THAT IS PURE PLEASURE!

Nealberk, if you are thinking of the Mary for a possible opportunity to try her, please do so.

The little we posted is nothing compared to the full list to come when I have a chance to continue to think of more thinks to add besides other Cunarders on the board.

Just got a thrill today, my Pre Cruise Documents came in the mail for the July 1st cruise.

This is the next to the last step before the Final Documents - Tickets arrive. After that, final countdown to embarkation day - heading for the pier that morning within 2-3 weeks.

Now remember, sailing on a Cunard ship is different than other ships except for Regent, Celebrity.....

You must enjoy Dressing Up, opt for Enrichment Programs like Lectures, RADA, Afternoon Tea in the Queens Room to name a few. Yes, there is class feeling behind the experience, but a special feeling when all participate in it.

Oh yes, there are regular activities onboard like Dance Lessons, Sport Deck, Movies BUT... No pool games like Belly Whopping, Beer Games, Movies on Big Screens Outside, Ice Skating Ring or Rock Climbing.

We were always happy re-joining the Elizabeth 2, Mary 2 and soon Victoria & Elizabeth.

    Research and Think About !

Our next to last cruise was on Celebrity for a 14 day TA. We love formal nights- it reminds us of the old style cruising and we do not get the chance to dress up often enough (we are computer types)

One of the highlights of the TA were the lectures by the former head of NASA's space photography group. He lectured every day at sea and his talks were phenomenal. We unfortunately had to miss the talks by the expert on the Titanic who gave a lecture at the same time.

Nothing better than our 4 o'clock tea! It was a nice extravagance.

Last cruise (the cruise from hell on HAL) we did get the chance to dance several times. No, I am not great but I did not step on my wife's toes too many times......

Never Experienced Celebrity Yet......Looking To In Future

Well on Cunard you have a very good mix of Elegant Casual, Semi Formal & Formal Dress.

It all depends on the Number of Days out and also the Number of Days at Sea. Again, the special part of the cruise is all onboard participate in making the ship a great experience thru following the Dress Code.

Also, there is no Free Style Cruising. Set times for Dining making it easy to space out the meals. Dress is also a special part of the Dining Experience.

I too enjoy the highlights of the Lectures especially the ones Cunard select. The cruise coming up will have a Shipping Expert very well know the to industry and is very knownledgeable of the History of the Cunard Line.

Also we will being have the Past Exec. Producer of the Radio City Music Hall in NYC talking on our cruise. Interesting.........

Nothing better than our 4 o'clock tea! It was a nice extravagance.

Yes, we too like the Tea In the Queens Room. Not High Tea but very social in itself. You do get the same Tea Sandwiches, Pastries & those Fresh Scones, Clotted Cream and English Strawberry Preserves. We even ask for the real English Clotted Cream from the UK in the kitchen that is very thick.

Also, sometimes they also have members of the Orchestra play and have a Tea Dance during the Tea. More dancing if it is in the Daily Programme.

Last cruise (the cruise from hell on HAL) we did get the chance to dance several times. No, I am not great but I did not step on my wife's toes too many times......

I would like to hear about the H*** part of the cruise on HAL.

I know the only area you can really dance on the HAL ships are Ocean Bar or the Crow Nests. We were on the Rotterdam and loved it.

We are NOT AT ALL big fans of the new style ships called Signature or Vista Class. We were on the first year of the Noordam and did not like it. Decor and even the food service was TERRIBLE! Once in 11 days did they get a steak right for me.

Now they have a system for dining fleet wide called Ask You Wish. Half of the Dining Room is Traditional Dining and the other half Open Seating. Not for me!

They have changed to meet the needs and attract those from other lines that have easier dining rules. Not for me!

Don't think we did not like the 11 days sailing, we did but certain things were not right and they should be if we booked it and experienced HAL service in the past on other ships. It will be awhile till we hear different.

I don't wish anyone to experience Cruise from H***. We have cruised over 25+ cruises and never had one problem and don't expect to experience on the Mary 2.

Hope to post more Good Things about Mary2.

If you have anymore questions, do feel free to ask. Will be happy to answer them.
