We were on a ship with a Sanctuary for the first time 14 months ago, but didn't book it. While we were touring the Golden on the first day or two, we did go up there and look around -- someone who works there did greet us, but no one else was around (would had been too cool and rainy to be sunning on the ship anyway).

The only time we were back in that area was after working out, but we were just availing ourselves of one of the hot tubs. I guess those are peripherall to the paid area.

I can't see us needing to book this area. Maybe in the future if we can't find peace and quiet, but that hasn't been an issue for us yet.

Am I understanding this correctly, you have to pay extra for a quiet area by the pool. The serenity deck on carnival is free.
Former cruises: NCL Gem to Bahamas, Carnival Triumph to Canada, NCL Spirit to Western Carib., Carnival Pride to bahamas, NCL Pearl to Alaska.

It has a completely different pool and area to itself. Yes, you do have to pay to use it.

While the pool is not considered part of the Serenity area (any adults can use it), I cannot see paying extra just for a padded lounge chair out of the shade and noise. To me, it's just not worth it. I can go down to the promenade deck to get out of the sun and noise and there's no charge.

To me, it's just another way to get more money out of those who are willing to pay extra for an amenity that most people don't want to pay for.

I totally agree we should not have to pay for it but if it was free on Princess and did not require reservations I would consider using it on a walk-in basis because I hate being around little kids.

Of course, I will sail when school is in session, so there will be no kids over age five to complain about.
Stay tuned for my review of the Sapphire Princess northbound repositioner

Island Princess is the only Princess ship we've cruised where The Sanctuary pool was for Sancturay only. Guess the same would be true for her sister ship, Coral.

Their Sanctuary is a two-level at the aft of the ship is lots nicer & less windy than the others. Thing is ... their Lotus Pool Area is also quite nice & relaxing with comfy chairs and it's free.

I do like the Sanctuary area, but I did not book it when we were on the Crown or Ruby Princess. I will be touring the Island and Crown Princess at Cruise3Sixty in late April.
