We enjoy the beach and some snorkeling.Perhaps some Mayan ruins in Belice or Cozumel?Of all the places in this cruise we already know Cayman(stayed at seven miles beach for a week and did the Stingray city excursion)but we¨re travelling with my sister,her family and my kids who don¨t know these places.As a experienced cruiser what would you recommend me not to miss"?Obviously you can see we are not the shopping type

Macia ... The one thing I suggest you absolutely not miss doing is going snorkeling in Belize's Barrier Reef. The snorkeling there is totally awesome!

The Barrier Reef at Belize is the 2nd largest in the world. (Australia'a Great Barrier Reef is the 1st.)

What would be the best place to snorkel in Belice?Are all places reached by water taxi or is there a beach near the tender port where you can snorkel?
Would you leave the visit of the Mayan ruins for Cozumel-Tulum?
Anyone else has any recommendations for Belice?

Marcia .... You'll need to take some sort of snorkel boat tour to get to the Barrier Reef.

If we were going to do that this time, we would do it the easy way and take a shore excursion offered by this ship. Either "Sargent's Caye Snorkel Adventure" or "Barrier Reef Snorkeling & Scenic Power Boating".

Lulu pinged me and asked me to comment on the ruins. We have been to the ruins at Tulum, magnificent. It is a several hour drive from Cozumel, first you have to cross the strait which is... interesting (and very choppy. If you are going to get seasick that is where it will occur) The ruins are unbelievable. I will do a post on them tonight and put it in the Cozumel section. You can see my thoughts on the ruins in my Century thread beginning around post 47.

We tried to see the ruins on the island of Cozumel but the more we researched the shore excursions, the less thrilled we were about them. Most of the shore excursions have words like "replica" or "model" in the description so we stayed away from them.
