Flying to LA for Princess cruise

When we fly to LA for our Hawaii cruise we will be on two different airlines. When we check our bags on the first airline will they automatically transfer them to the next airline or will we be responsible to get them to the next airline? We are flying out a day early, so they will not be going to the cruise ship.

Coming home I understand that we cannot use the EZcheck because of two different airlines.
    So, how will that work?

If you booked your flights as one package, they should be responsible for transferring your bags. If you booked one flight to your first stop and then you booked the next flight, you are responsible. I hope that answers your question.

Once my family only took carry-ons because switching airlines at our connection airport meant there was no automatic transfer.

Smart move to go a day early. Once my family stayed in Newark, New Jersey overnight (at a Hilton, thank God) because of a flight cancellation. Because of that experience, I always wonder why a cruiser would want to fly on embarkation day.

According to my son, who works for United, it depends on the two airlines as well as how you booked your flights.

Check with your first airline to find out if they have a reciprocal agreement with the other. If so, your bags may automatically be transferred. If not, then you may have to claim your bags and recheck them.

As was said, if you book one flight with one airline and then another flight with another airline as two separate flights, you'll probably have to claim your bags and recheck them. Again, this depends on the two airlines involved.

If you book the trip through one website and traveling on two different airlines, you may not have to claim your bags and recheck them. But you need to check with the first airline.

No one here can truthfully answer your question about this because each airline has different agreements with other airlines and it depends on how you booked the different legs of your trip, so the only way to find out what you need to do is to check with your first airline.

Pete, I totally agree with you.

IMHO, to be on the safe side, pick up your luggage and recheck it. That way I know I would feel a lot safer.
